Bose Amp Compatibility?

I haven't seen this particular question asked yet, so here goes. I have a 2002 with the Bose setup, with the amp, a CD changer in the trunk and a really funky 4 cassette unit. I'd like to replace the head unit, and remove the CD changer and the cassette unit, and really like the Kenwood DDX-790. Is the Bose amp on a 2002 unit (non-MOST) compatible, or do I need to replace the amp as well?

Maybe my listening standards are lower than some of the guys here, but I'm quite satisfied with the sound quality of the current unit, but I'd like to change CDs without pulling over an popping the hood....

Thoughts?

I wanted to change out my head unit also, but was told I couldn't use the Bose Amp. The Bose system he said was fiber optic, and wouldn't be compatible with after market head units. Basically you're removing the entire sound system and replacing it with your own choice. Hope that helps. I ended up staying stock. Good luck in your decision.

I swapped out my 2002 Bose system head unit and replaced it with a regular old head unit from Sony and had no issues. My understanding is that the 2003 model year is the first year where this issue arises. I assume the four cassette unit is a cassette storage unit. You can replace those with a cubby. Available from pelican parts and other places online. Pops right out. Might even be able to sell it on eBay.

I believe you can change the head unit on your '02 Boxster and retain the remaining Bose equipment. Have you read Pelican's informative install instruction guide?
