996 does not start
my 2004 996 c4s won't start. it takes a few times of turning the key to start it or if I hold the key on starting position for about 10 seconds then it starts to crank. I have replaced the ignition switch as some has suggested but does not fix the issue. I also has replace the batter brand new.
thank you for suggestions.

You can play around with it for ever or take it to the dealership and have it fixed in a couple of hours. I know my time is worth too much to spend hours upon hours trying to trouble-shoot something that the dealer (or Indi) can diagnose and repair quickly. Good luck.

Next time you are able to get it to start, take it to Autozone or a place that you can check the engine diagnostics obd codes. Autozone has code reader that they will plug in for free and tell you the code-and you may have your own code reader. That's where I would start, but there is a chance yours isn't throwing a code. Then the forum is a great place, and if you can't find the solution here, and you have to take it in to the shop, PLEASE post the results here so the next guy has a jump start on the situation. I have had many situations that I was able to fix by the knowledge of the friends we have here. AND sometimes it is quicker to handle the issue yourself at your house on your time versus dealing with dropping your car of at a dealership. Good luck and please keep us posted.

It almost sounds like it's shorting out. But it could also be the ignition switch, sounds like it could be worn out. If you have a spare key try that as well.
I recommend you perform 1 quick test. Look at the starter, there are 2 wires going to it, the big fat wire is the constant hot wire from the battery that provides high current to turn the starter motor, be sure that the connection is clean and tight. The small wire that "plugs" in is the signal wire that is powered when in the "start" position to engage the starter solenoid, when you turn the key to "start" you should have power to this small wire, if you do have power here and no starter response then YES you have a starter issue.
