Help please :-( Can't open my car 119
Yes that's right. That connecting rod is attached to the key chamber/cylinder permanently and pivots/flex around. I dont think it will fall inside the door so you're good.
Thanks thanks for providing a wider perspective. As I mentioned I had a spare door handle that paved the way for me taking the route I took.
Just a few comments as well: I dont have AAA here and home depot as well :-). I did not scratch the car - I used dremmel cutting tool pen type. There was no drilling to any component at the back of the handle. The metal frame at the back of the handle can easily be moved out of the way.
But then again you are right. If i only had the time and resources I would have explored other ways. Thanks again.

Well I was able to disassembled my driver side door and removed the door handle assembly. Discovered the connecting rod had sheared off...as this piece was made out of plastic unlike FMJ's which appears to be made put of metal. Will be paying a visit to my favorite P-dealer in the morning...cha-ching!
Hey FMJ. I took a closer look at your picture with the screw driver holding the handle. I had originally thought that those whitish lines were scratches. They're weird little lines that I can now only assume are coming from florescent light fixtures. For the record I was trying to come up with alternatives for the next guy more so than to critique your work. The good new's it you got it done! PS: How on earth can a DIY guy live nowhere near a Home Depot? That's gotta make life tough! Keep on Porscheing. Alan
Dealer wants $450 not including taxes nor installation for the door lock unit but does include keying the lock. Will take 3 weeks to put in as a special order. The plastic connecting rod is not sold as a separate item. I will pass on taking this route. I have taken off the plastic connecting rod from the broken door handle unit so I know this part can be swapped out...will be keeping an eye out for unused matching part on eBay. Wish I had the metal connector rod.
Bought a used driver side door lock off of eBay for about $60 including shipping from a seller/parts dealer/shop in England. eBay sellers from US want between $200 - $275 for same item. The color of the door handle did not matter to me as I only need the plastic connecting rod. Should arrive in less than 2 weeks.
There are two Porsche dismantling companies (or more) that sell parts on ebay. One is in New Mexico and one in Sacramento. I contacted, and bought a part from the New Mexico company that was not listed on ebay. They both have very good prices.
Well, I'm sure glad that I took part in this thread............. because I now know what to do considering my key is spinning in the lock!! Oh boy. Eh, I needed to take off the door panel anyway to install speaker boxes and door speakers.
