911 in a ditch
911 in a ditch
went to go visit my wife at her work yesterday and did not realize the roads 15 mins. north of me had iced up. I came off the highway exit and hit some ice . The rear came around fast and furious . I fought the good fight with counter steer but it came around too fast and went sliding off the road hit the grass and slid even faster . ended up backwards in a ditch . Took out the rear bumper and looks like exhaust damage . I guess that is the end of my driving season. I wish this car had PSM probably would have saved me .
Glad you are here to post the story, as things could have been worse.
Check the engine for potential damage as well. Hope everything gets solved quickly so you can get her back on the road.

It could have been much worse . a few more feet , i would have been in a deeper ditch and possibly on my roof . I must say the much disliked bumperettes did a good job absorbing the impact . I actually drove the car to the repair shop .
Yes, i am on summer tires. i do not think it would have made any difference in this situation . I drive with my summer tires in the cold all the time for many many years with no problem . it is not all that uncommon for me to take the car out on a clear day in the dead of winter.
i am still shaken up even today it was a fairly violent spin when i was just chillen , listening to my newly installed Focal speakers .

I can't speak about THAT specific situation but - Summer tires are for temps. above cold. Snow/ice tires are for winter driving AND cold temps. Sorry for your event, I've been there, but it's time to put on some Nokian, Pirelli, Michelin or other snow/ice tire.
ya exactly. it only helps u putting power on asphalt
in this case, i am not sure if psm will help either
it should be a few grand to fix it up. i would not drive summer tire during winter in snow country.

When you have no traction (summer tires), PSM or AWD won't help you in any way. You should take this as a lesson learned and at a minimum get some all-season tires, summer tires are poor in the cold and dangerous in any kind of ice or snow. Famous saying, "those who do not learn from the past are doomed to repeat it".
On the upside the damage doesn't look too bad and you are obviously ok, so things could have been far worse.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone , i am a little more thank full today. i would just like to clarify that I do not drive my car in ice or snow , not even in the wet in the winter time. that is why i keep my summer tires on . what happened to me was a case of not knowing the weather conditions , i was not the only one caught off guard that day . I will take my car out on a clear cold day to keep the car from sitting to long . you just need to understand that you will have reduced grip. I do believe that PSM would have helped in this situation , I have it on my boxster S and it works well in my opinion . It will react faster than you , give you a dab of brake where you need it and keep you on the correct path or closer to it . This car will be the last Porsche I own without PSM .
Ouch. Sorry to hear about your accident. I too don't think PSM or AWD would have helped in this situation. I would get winter tires instead all season. But winter tire is not 100% fool proof anyway. It's an accident. Good luck.
