Brandywine Porsche had a huge spread in this month's Excellence. One of the items they had was a PSE for a 996 for $1,499.95. Maybe you should check it out 610-886-1000. Ask for Justin.

Thanks for the heads up. I called and spoke to Jay who told me that its for sale for $1599, and doesn't include any of the wiring. To me that isn't such a great deal since Suncoast has it for $1600 or so, and it includes the wiring.

I never said it was a "great deal." Justin the parts manager gave me the price. I have no idea what it's worth or what it includes. I was just trying to be helpful and provide some information to someone who might be.

Exhaust is 1499.95

I just purchased the exhaust from Brandywine @ 1499.95 with all the wiring. It did not include the switch for the dash. I spoke to Justin. jay may have been mistaken.

Installation question

Ho much is labor (hours, price) to install the PSE with the switch in the dash? Anybody has done so and know?

Thanks.

I just had the mufflers installed on my Carrera a few weeks ago--paid $100 at an independent Porsche shop (just over an hour).

I had the full PSE setup installed on my last Carrera, and it was something like 8 hours, over $1,000. Good news is I got PSE installed gratis due to the numerous problems I had with the car.

I wouldn't even consider having the switch installed. They have to take apart a lot of the interior to get the wire harness from the engine compartment to the fuse panel, which is asking for squeaks/rattles. And I can't imagine ever using the switch. Driving around the neighborhood, I keep it under 3,000 rpm and it's not going to bother the neighbors, if that's your concern.

Poursha do you really think that having them remove and reinstall interior panels is going to create rattles? I would think if the dealership or independant shop was a high quality establishment, and they placed everything back together properly, it could even eleviate squeaks or rattles that might have been present before. What are your thoughts?

Believe me, I had many squeaks & rattles after the install, and it was done by a Porsche dealer with a quality service department. The interior panels are connected by clips that aren't designed to be removed and reinstalled, so they're not going to be as tight as they originally were.

That aside, there's no reason to have the switch installed .

Okay, so lets say that I don't have the switch installed. Do you believe that the Porsche Sports Exhaust is the best option for an exhaust that is civil, yet can bring out the true soul of the car? I absolutely despise exhausts that make the car rattle, and exhausts that constantly set off every single car alarm when driving down a street. I actually heard the PSE when I originally drove the cars about a year ago, but I haven't thought much since then since I was planning on getting the switch to modulate the sound. Realistically I realize that if I were to install the switch I'd probably NEVER use it, so I think you've finally swayed my opinion to just get the exhaust without the wiring.

PSE, IMHO, is the exhaust that should be standard on these cars. At low RPMs, it's throaty, but not obnoxiously loud. At speed, it screams! I've never experienced any resonance, and it doesn't make the car rattle, nor have I set off any car alarms. It is--in your words--very civil, yet brings out the true soul of the car. I can't say enough good things about it--absolutely the best option I've ever had in any car I've owned. Puts a big grin on my face!
