CDR23 Head Unit W/Bose

I think I know the answer but thought I'd ask. Just can't swap out the head unit correct? Need a new amp also. '04 C2 car.

I have heard there may be a few options but pretty limited. I just replaced mine with a double din. Replacing the amp isn't that big of a deal (other than money). Call Rod at www.caraudioinnovations.com I bought my system through them and Rod is very helpful giving options and setting up a package including trim pieces that are custom for your car/setup and give you a turnkey package. On top of that his prices are competitive with people like crutchfield. I'm just a recent (and very impressed) customer of them and have no affiliation with the company.

If you get a MOST-HUR adapter, then you can use a new head unit with your existing amps and speakers. Otherwise, you need to replace them. The Bose amps and speakers use 2 ohms of impedance and most aftermarket systems are 4 ohms.

FWIW, many people (me included) believe that the speakers are the weak link in the system in terms of sound quality. You'll get a better result if you replace all the components. That being said, I know that gets expensive and it may not be the best option for you.

Thx Dennis, do,you know where I can obtain the adapter? Saw one on amazon but it looked like it was for a 997 w/Nav and it was $647.

That price seems about right. I believe the 997 adapter will work with the 996, but you'll want to confirm that with the manufacturer. Try Nav TV and see if they have one.

Wow! If that's the price for an adapter, I would personally take the time to replace the amp and get an upgrade. The amp I bought was around $500. I also agree with the speaker comment. I had the bose system and with a much better headunit/amp, the speakers do really stand out. Still sounds much better though. Maybe speakers will be phase 2 for me. My focus wasn't so much sound quality improvement as Bluetooth connectivity.

Bluetooth connectivity is nice, but the interior of the 996 is so loud with engine and tire noise that I rarely use it. For me, the addition of nav and Sirius/XM is a bigger benefit.

you could do what i did. wire the speakers directly to the new double din headunit i installed and bypass the amp entirely.
