996 Clutch replacement Suggestions

Hey guys, new to forum. Have a 2000 Porsche 911 (996). Bought the car last summer and the clutch pedal was very "soft" with a majority of the engagement at the end of the trail. I assume this is not how its supposed to feel but curious how to fix it. Well its officially slipping now and finally gave out the other night. I can release the pedal and the car doesnt move. Having tried a few times and smelling burnt clutch I can only assume its time for a change. (fyi, im no stranger to manuals)

this is a just a commuter car and I dont want to install any high performance stiff clutch.

Looks like Sachs is the OEM replacement but I wanted to see what opinions you have on OEM replacement especially for the Dual Mass flywheel(under the assumption that dual masses cannot be resurfaced).

Figured id also take care of the real main seal while im there. Anything else i should look at?

thanks!

Go OEM for a stock feel. I was able keep my flywheel when I had my clutch replaced last year. You might want to look into the RMS and IMS replament while the Trans is out. Also the AOS. This will add to your costs but it will give you piece of mind over the long haul.

+1 to an OEM clutch. Personally, I'd change the IMS bearing while it's apart. You can have it replaced with an OEM bearing or an aftermarket ceramic bearing like the one made by LN Engineering. The labor for the bearing is virtually nonexistent while they've got everything apart for the clutch replacement. I had mine replaced with a ceramic bearing when my clutch was done.

My opinion (to minimize the oops factor) is to drop it off at your trusted mechanic, or dealership, and pick it up later that afternoon. With the new clutch installed.

As Dennis and bornrich stated I would definitely change the IMS bearing, there is a ton of information online about it. As for the clutch, Sachs makes all the parts for the OE clutch. We also offer Valeo clutch kit, for more information Click Here.
