So here we go...complete newbie
To make a long story short, I bought a 1999 996 last week. It is black, 63k miles, has had the RMS and IMS done. Really loving the car so far.
To make a short story longer, I had never even ridden in a Porsche prior to my test drive of what eventually became my 911. I was impressed and continue to be.
My dream since I was about 16 years old was to have a Viper RT10. Saw Carroll Shelby drive the pace car at Indy in 1992, saw one in the showroom at my local dealer, and really fell in love with it. However, price and lack of all practicality were a nasty combination on that car. Not to mention, lack of ABS and traction control and no good top, you wouldn't want to drive it if there was even a chance of precipitation. So...
A hell of a lot of time passed, 21 plus years to be exact. All the while I was still dreaming of the first generation Viper. I owned a MINI, my first new car, before the kids were born. Went from that to a new Caliber SRT4 (I still have it, for now), which for a four door hatch is quite fun to drive. But none of these scratched the sports car itch.
Harken to 2014. Daycare expenses came off the books, freeing up a good chunk of cash per month. I discussed with my dad that I could now begin to shop for a toy in earnest. We discussed Vipers, with all of my previously mentioned concerns coming up. He then asked me what used Porsche 911s were like price-wise. There, he said, was a car that could realistically be driven year round and provide some measure of practicality and reliability. I checked around and found them to be more affordable than I had imagined. Started shopping, and BAM! Found my new/used Porsche.
I am looking forward to the new adventure I am embarking on and from learning as I go from the fine folks on the forum here. Thanks for reading!

No sir, it is not a C4S. Are the red calipers indicative of a C4? Because someone added an S to the interior "Carrera" badge, maybe wishing??? Maybe they added the red calipers too?
If my car is a poser, I plead innocent!!!!

Is yours a daily driver?
The wheels he has on his car are just the normal carrera wheels in 18" you get.
Great looking car. Ditching the head and tail lights in favor of non amber versions or LED versions will update the car by 10 years. Looks good and welcome.
No poser, it's your car mod it the way you want and enjoy.
Thanks to all of you guys for the welcome. It really isn't technically a daily driver, the SRT4 will still get the nasty weather duty. I work from my house and have a company truck, so I honestly don't get to drive my vehicles a ton. My 2008 SRT4 has 23k miles on it. I am trying to convince the wife to drive the SRT4 some to justify keeping it, because with the Porsche around it's use to me will be very limited.
C4s have different tail lights, rear bumper, exhaust tips, they are a widebody car and come with turbo wheels.

I consider myself a novice owner. Coming up on 2 years now. This forum has been incredibly helpful! There is a HUGE amount of good info.
Unexpected pleasure on the P-car is the smell of the interior. That and the fun she is to drive and the how really easy she is to work on.
Cheers!

I live in Newport, KY. I work in Eastgate off 32. My family and I grew up in the northside in West Chester but now they all live in colerain. So pretty much I am everywhere all the time.

Awesome story! We would love to see a few pictures of the 996.
