HP Numbers?...What's the highest HP 996 N/A street-legal motor you've seen?
HP Numbers?...What's the highest HP 996 N/A street-legal motor you've seen?
I know there are some built 996's out there, what's the highest HP (street-legal) you've seen in an N/A 996 motor?
there arn't that many hyper tuned n/a's out there...hell i've seen all motor honda's put out power thats in our league..
personally..i put 261hp at the wheels on a stock engine 3.4l.
i'm sure there are some guys that have got 300 or more at the wheels if they go with cams, custom chipping, air filter, full exhaust.

There are a couple of companies who do built N/A stroker packages on the standard 996 motors...as much as 4.0L's (around 390HP) but the cost is ridiculously expensive...to the point its unpractical (over $30K for the motor)
FVD has a bolt-on package that consists of an intake, headers, exhaust, cats, camshafts and reprogrammed motronic all worth about 355HP (on the 3.6L motor) for $8200. Thats IMO the best N/A bang you will get without doing a major $$$ engine build or swap motors altogether. (trust me, i researched this long & hard)

Although the power is only advertised at ~355...they claim the reprogram and cams shift the powerband in a way to give you much more area under the curve in addition to the 35 peak HP increase. (Meaning in some spots where there were dips before you may have as much as 40 or more hp increase over stock where as the "peak" increase is no more than 35*....making the package much quicker than u may think) However I agree with you...$10,000 after the install is A LOT to swallow for even decent gains on a N/A....I would go SC route for only a couple of grand more and make 100+ more HP with a lot more torque*

I had 260 rwhp with my 3.6 using headers, intake and exhaust at 5000 ft elevation and decided to go to the Evo SC which now puts out 411 at the wheels. However I did see an add in Excellance several times from Meridian Motors about a normally aspirated 996 that was over 4 lt. and put out 450 or so hp. I have not heard of anyone actually purchasing that motor and I could not find it on their webb site. They have not had the ad in any mag I get for a while. Will
The tricky thing IMO with a larger displacement motor is the financial comparison between doing such an expensive motor swap versus simply buying a GT3 that has a better chassis, suspension, brakes, etc right out of the box.
I'd be curious to see how SC'd 3.4 and 3.6 996's fare over time considering regular maintenance and including track usage. I guess the nice thing is that a replacement 996 motor is just north of $10k, so there isn't a whole lot of risk involved perhaps?

well assuming you do blow the motor after about 50k on the supercharger, its not that horrible to just spend 8k on a new motor, because youd be getting a new motor. I thought they were more expensive
I mean, these ARE porsches....I'm SURE there's SOMEONE out there (if not several shops) that can rebuild your standard motor with lower compression pistons and better liners while they got it all apart anyway for the rebuild when/if it blows after 50K miles on SC.....then you can safely turn up the wick to make even crazier power than before!
(and try and blow it up again
) Anyone on here know of a shop that simply CAN do bottom end work on a standard 996 motor for F/I ??
