Steering Wheel Upgrade

Hi guys,
I've got a 2000 911 Carrera Cabriolet with the old fashion looking 4 spoke steering wheel. I was looking at upgrading the steering wheel to one of the three spoke Porsche steering wheels off the 2012 model 911.

Has anyone done this? Is it possible to put the new steering wheel in my 911 without losing horn or airbag functionality?

There's been several. Just search on Rennlist or Renntech

+1 on Alpine003's post - search here or on Rennlist.

Really easy to do. the connections should be easily managed as they will be the same. There's a guy on there that did a similar wheel swp on his 944 using a 996 3 spoke wheel. He used the Tiptronic wheel with the gear change buttons, and re-purposed those buttons to use with his stereo.

I got a used wheel off Rennlist classifieds and sourced the airbag from ebay.

There's a few options available for upgrading from the four-post steering wheel. The three spoke factory wheels are a direct fit. To save money you can E-bay a matching airbag. I went with a DCTMS T96 steering wheel in Metropol blue with the flat bottom white stitching and white stripe at the apex. Metropol blue airbag from LA Dismantlers. Regarding parts, there is the air bag bracket and 5 torx screws that need to be obtained. Regarding the installation, the battery needs to be disconnected and if you've never removed an airbag it's a fun filled few minutes of anxiety. However, the most difficult part of the process is centering the steering wheel.

Good info for the OP. Nice looking wheel. I'm considering and debating black with red or all black T96. I will have a 3 spoke avail when T96 arrives.

If you need some hints about removing and replacing the steering wheel, check out the video tutorial for replacing the turn signal switch here:
