Becker CDR-220 AUX/MP3 Out adapter
Does anyone know where I might be able to purchase a new auxillary output for the Becker CDR-220 radio. I believe the part number is 1319.116-276. I am hoping to get my MP3 playing through a better connection than the FM modulator, which is starting to drive me crazy here in New York. Thanks.
I just did this mod. Upside is looks good and you have the interface for the ipod through the head unit and speakers. Down side is no use of the 6CD stacker. THE CD in the head unit still works.
I ran the cord from the back of the unit up through the center console up through the bottom of the non smoker ash tray (option)
I then went to tap plastic and formed a U shped mounting bracket which I secured with velcro to the ashtray. This allows the ipod to mount to the bracket which you can slide off and on when not in use.

If you have an 03 or later 996 or 986, then your options are very limited because of the MOST digital bus architecture that is used for the radio.
Your only options are either an over the air FM transmitter, or (preferred) an inline FM transmitter.
The inline unit plugs into the antenna input of the radio. When your iPod is on, you tune to a particular frequency, and the inline unit disables the FM antenna so the radio does not get any crosstalk from local stations. The frequency response is FM (150-15K), and the dynamic range is compressed, but it is better than the over the air units, especially in urban areas.

The 03/04 996 Radios are pretty well integrated into the MOST architecture. I have heard of some that have completely replaced the stock digital radio/amplifier/speaker system with an aftermarket one such as Alpine, but have had mixed results in getting it to work correctly.
Perhaps someone that has an 03/04 that has done a sound system retrofit could share their experiences.
One thing for sure is that it will be expensive.
