3.6L chips anyone have one?
3.6L chips anyone have one?
I wanted to get a GIAC chip as I have had his chips in two of my past cars. I sent him an email and was told the 3.6L is too well done from the factory.
Today I went to Powerchips site and with the 93 octane option they are saying 15 or more hp from 4000-7500 with a max of +22 at 6500 and a peak hp of 339 @7000
For torque they are saying 13 or more from 2000 to 7000 witha max of +19 lb.ft from 4000-5500 and a peak of 292 @ 4500
Here is a link the pdf with the specs:
http://www.powerchipgroup.com/datasheets/2/Por0041.pdf
Does anyone have this chip? I'd love to hear your thoughts. For $1000 it seems like a great deal, but it bothers me that Garrett Lim a tuner I have known personally and respected for years cannot extract power from this engine, and Powerchip can.
Thanks...

I had (and have) exactly the same question about those guys. Sounds great, and I was very close to doing to it, but held off in the end. Reasons:
1. Can't find anyone who has done it before on a 3.6L. My impression was that these guys are well known for their BMW chips, but have done very few P-cars.
2. I read the same stuff about how the 3.6L engines are already optimized (not true of 3.4's and TT's), and that companies who claim otherwise are ripping you off. No idea if it's true, but it bothered me.
3. I was a little bothered that you can basically input ANY car at their website, and it will output a "customized" pdf report showing the gains from their chip -- they could not possibly have tested all those cars, so what is the data based on?
4. I know it probably won't happen, but if for some reason they screw up your computer, your warranty is invalid and you're screwed. If you read their warranty carefully, they won't cover this. They tell you that when the manufacturer denies you coverage (which they tell you is likely), that you should call the FTC to report a violation of some law. I'm guessing the FTC won't put spoiled (in their view) P-car owners high on their priority list.
All that being said, if a bunch of people tomorrow said that they have done it and it works as advertised, I'd probably reconsider immediately! Oh well, my .02. Let us know what you decide!

You have a G-Tech? If so, buy the chip with a money-back guarantee and see if you get your grand worth.
If not, we'll all be appreciative of the effort. (Who knows, maybe Powerchip will cut you a deal on yours so you can sell the rest of us with the real-world results.) :-)

I'd rather not hack up my factory ECU for the sake of an experiment....
I would like to hear from anyone who has the Powerchip or any other chip. I'd like to hear their driving impressions and see any before and after dynos if possible.
That goes with what I said in the start of this topic. Garrett as you notice is a really great guy. I knew him well when he was here on the east coast.
That said, what's with powerchips claims?
