Price Advice

I'm still looking at buying my first 911. I found a very pristine '01 Cabriolet with 31K miles. It has recently had the Intermediate shaft bearing retrofit, clutch, pressure plate, rear seal, release bearing, Air Oil Separator, and water pump performed by Flat Six Innovations in GA.

What is a fair price that I should pay for this car? I assume you can't go by the NADA guides or KBB prices. Thanks!

That's a difficult question to answer, what is the asking price? Up here I see them from 15k to 27k.

X2

Color combo, options, condition, any other maintenance items, tip or manual, region, etc would factor into it.

With that said, in the last few years of keeping up with pricing, I haven't seen any mk1 cabs go for over $2k regardless of mileage.

I assume you meant $20K? I'm new to Porsche and I don't know what an "mk1" means?

This one is Arctic Silver/Black, pristine condition, comes with original hard top, don't know about any other maintenance items, manual transmission, the car is in Florida. The seller won't go less than $30K.

Based on a nationwide internet search that I did, when you factor in the $5K Flat Six Innovations IMS retrofit/preventative maintenance package, the price of the car may still be a little high, but I didn't think it was to far out of line. This is why I was trying to find out from the 996 owners in this forum.

Mk1 = 1999-2001 models

Sorry i meant $25k.

$30k is gonna be a hard sell IMO. Absolute top dollar should be $25k on mk1 regardless of mileage.

$25k-$30k is typically lower mileage mk2(2002-2004) territory.

Check this one out.

https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...seal-grey.html

It has everything you mentioned plus the seller is a really good guy that knows these cars inside and out. It's higher mileage but if you can get it with the wing and suspension it is a steal. Also it's an mk2 so it's got the bigger engine than the 2001. Should hold its value longer.

It was the best deal I could find in the country when I was looking.

You said top dollar should be $25K. Is that even with the $5K preventative maintenance package that the car has? $30K must be a hard sell because it hasn't sold yet!

Thanks Slakker. The '02 is a very nice car but I just moved to FL and really wanted a Cab. The mk2 does sound like a better way to go vs. the mk1.

Only you can determine if the $5k pm costs are worth the extra selling price to you. I would say buy whatever car in the condition, price point, options, color combo makes best sense to you. Just don't come here after the fact second guessing your decision.

just because the previous owner did maintenance work to the car does not mean you should pay for it. we all get stuck with maintenance costs you can not pass them on to the next owner . should add some value and be considered but not the full bill . aftermarket mods. also have no value as far as resale. Like other members pointed out 01 cars max. out at 25k and that is top dollar .

Some buyers have the opinion the PM stuff you mentioned the car had applied is required just so the car sells at market price. To get a premium for these -- some consider -- must have updates is like a steak house charging extra for butter for the baked potato.

Thanks; that seems to be the consensus and I appreciate everyones advice. I'm not going to buy the '01 and am back on the hunt. After everything that I've heard on the forum, I think I'm going to concentrate on either an '03 or '04.
