Question Speaker question

Any reccomendations on speakers for a 99' 996 with the "horrible sound package" Car only has 4 speakers. All I really want to do is replace the 4 speakers and the headunit though. Any idea on what brand and size speaker fits? Thanks!

Reus Audio... do a search because there have been plenty of discussions on this in the past.

Someone is selling his Reus speaker system, including new amps.

I think you have the base system. Alpine or Eclipse HU are great. Since you are not adding new speakers, you can get away with amp build into the HU. As for speakers, get something that is efficient and have a tweeter built-in as you only have 4. Many HU offers XM, MP3 if you are into that sort of thing. Also consider one with Nav (either built in screen or flip up screen).

The headunit is the easy part IMO. Im really concerned about the speakers though because It seems like there arent any to instal for the do-ityourselfer. I just want to remove them and repalce them. No hassle. Not a lot of $$$ either. If it could sound as good as a VW Jetta with sound upgrade then im happy lol

MB Quart may be over your cost but they're recommended by many. Given you are sticking w 4 spks only, I'd recommend putting something good. Crutchfield is a good place to determine fitment. Besides diameter of spkr, you'll also want to verify depth is sufficient. Fronts require door panel removal, check out write ups in Renntech. Rears are easy, just screw out using hex key.

I guess my main concern is not getting into custom stuff. Ive heard of MB Quart being the way to go before. I think I'll explore that option. Thank you!!!!

BTW, You said you have 4 spkr only. Do you not have spkrs in the doors? If so, your upgrade shouldn't even require door panel removal which is pretty easy. I just haven't seen a base stereo setup before.

I think Porsche's speaker size is standard size. So, you just have to make sure the bracket can be reused and depth is adequate for your new speakers. I agree that you should avoid a custom setup unless you are avid stereo do-it-yourselfer or going with a pro installation.

If you want REALLY good get Focal, much better than MB Quart and they make sizes that will be fairly easy to drop in to the stock locations. A Mid Bass in the door and a 2 way seperate in the dash. in the rears you can go with a decent coax unit. You would probably want a decent amp to power them though.

If he only has dash and rear speakers, and that is all he will replace than the sound is not gonna be much better. The Space given allows almost no bass output.

If you just want better highs, than just go wih any pop brand...alpine, pioneer etc. Than add a $200 to $250 head and be done. Without dedicated subs and amps, it is hard to get any quality sound. IMHO.

Thanks guys this has been a real help! Yes I have the base biscuit set up. 2 speakers in dash 2 in the rear. Pretty crappy. I got the headunit coming and will order speakers soon. I'll try that if it's still not up to my liking then I'll have to explore an amp and a sub. Thanks again!

I just had focal cv 100's put in in the 4 stock positions with 5ws utopia subs in the door. I am running this with a planet audio amp and stock head unit/changer.
the st-up sounds REALLY good.
i'll probably upgrade the headunit to a double din nav deal from pioneer next.
focal cannot be beaten imo. they make some of the best home speakers (over 100k) and that tech trickles down. their woofer technology is superior to everything out there.
hope this helps.

The factory locations in your car will fit 4" drivers but you will need to modify the speaker frames to get them to fit in there correctly. in the front you CAN use a 6 1/2" seperates set with the mid in the door and the tweeter in the stock dash location but there is some work involved in the installation.
