Help:hood/trunk door release

So my trunk release button was slightly broken to the point where you have to be gentle when pushing the button. Unfortunately, my mechanic forgot when I told him the "process" to opening the trunk. Anyway...this happened. I need to remove/replace it but I'm not sure how. I did find brief instructions online which said to remove the two small plastic buttons on the side facing the driver's seat and then remove the allen bolts but I can't seem to find or even feel them when I stick the allen wrench in there. Does anyone have step by step instructions? Thanks!
