1999 996 C4 strut mounts

Does anyone have experience with the monoball front strut mounts? I'm needing to replace my front strut mounts and trying to get info on the monoball mounts for typical street driving. Ive found a pair through Elephant Racing that are cheaper than the OEM rubber bushing mounts. Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

Have you had a chance to look at the link I posted? I am curious if the mounts listed are POS or worth putting in my 996 C4?

Thanks,
Jeff

I haven't used either, but I'm probably going to go with these from Tarret Racing http://www.tarett.com/items/996-997-...smt-detail.htm They're $50 less expensive than the Elephant ($550), and I found a good deal on the Vivid Motorsports website (approx. $490 including shipping). I would have bought them yesterday but something happened with the website and it wouldn't complete the order... Vivid says they're working on it so I'll order again in the next day or so. I'm still waiting on my front struts (Bilstein B8) so it's not a big rush. I should have them and be done with the install in the next week or so (working on the rears now...). Fortunately my rear top mounts look perfect!

Thank you for the info. At this point, I'm starting with the front struts and haven't even looked at the rear struts yet. My 996 is lowered and on 20 in. wheels, so the ride is rough anyway. I'm trying to get rid of the clunking noise up front, then I may lift it a bit. Not sure at this point.

I looked at the Tarret site and the $499 price is per strut mount. The Elephant racing site offers both mounts (right and left side) as a pair for $550. The performance shock company that asked for the link hasn't responded back yet. I'm hoping they have some info on these strut mounts that I'm missing. Seems too good to be true for both mounts.

No, it isn't^ look again... $499/pr. http://www.tarett.com/items/996-997-...smt-detail.htm

You say your car is "lowered" already. Are you using coilovers or lowereing springs?

After having a pair of stock replacements crack only after a year I put on a set of the Tarett pieces on my 4S. They work just fine. I was expecting more road noise but that hasn't been the case at all.

If that's for the pair, then I'll jump on it.

Let me know when you get them and put them in.

I bought my 996 about 3 weeks ago and I haven't done anything to it myself. The previous owner lowered it and the dealership didn't know anything about this car, or Porsche at all. I haven't been into yet to look at the suspension. I know from driving it, it needs strut mounts and soon I'm going to really get into it and know more. I couldn't pass up the deal it was going for and plan to put some work into it over the next year.

Nice! This is exactly the kind of info I've been looking for. I haven't gotten my front struts off yet, so I don't know what the top mounts are going to look like. The stock rears were in great shape so I'm going to leave them alone. I got the drivers side rear shock (Bilstein B8) and spring (H&R Sport springs) installed last night. Will do the passenger side this morning and hopefully get the fronts disassembled today (don't have the struts yet). If the top-mounts show any real wear, I'll go ahead and order the Tarret mono *****...

Well, congrats on the car! They really are a lot of car for the money! The problem is, the cost of repairs can really bite you quickly if you don't stay on top of things. Suddenly what seemed like a great deal can also be a curse. The fact that "the dealer didn't know anything about Porsches"...is a little bit scary IMO. If you didn't have a PPI done before buying, you should get it to the best Porsche shop in your area and have a thorough inspection done (if you did you can disregard the rest of this...). I don't know how much you've read (forums and whatnot) but there are some truly nightmarish scenarios with what seem to be pristine cars. For what will probably turn out to be a few hundred dollars it will give you peace of mind and potentially save you thousands of $ down the road. Some photo's of you car would be great to see! Good luck with 'er

I've attached a picture. I've been looking for a C4 or CVS for a couple years. I've seen some good deals that turned out to be a a good looking car on the outside but were in bad shape internally. This one is strong and fairly low miles (58k). I'm prepared to put some money into it. It's not my DD and sits in my garage getting driving very little at this point. Thanks for the info and I will definitely be having Porsche go through it with a fine tooth comb.

Still working on the fronts (C4), hopefully I'll finish them up this week (only working nights for a couple hrs.)

I finally got under and into the car. I have H&R shocks and coilovers. Do you know anything about those? They're adjustable. I haven't seen the camber plates yet, but I still suspect they're factory. Would someone put an upgraded suspension in and neglect the camber plates?
