general enquiry

Hello,

Does anyone know if it is possible to fit an engine from a Boxster (any or most suitable) into a 2001 996 carrera?
Im not asking whether its right or wrong to do it or whether its cool or not to do it - Simply is it a simple process or has anyone done it sucessfully.

Rob.

Someone was asking about doing this with his early ('99?) Carrera. I do not recall the outcome (or even if he posted the outcome).

The engine will fit. Ideally you would want a Boxster engine of the same MY.

The intake manifold might have to be turned 180 degrees. The engine mounts may need to be swapped.

You might have to use the 996 water pump.

Unfortunately I have nothing concrete to offer you, though. You might check at the Pelican site. It offers articles on various engine swaps and it might offer one on what you want to do.

Or you can see what's involved in swapping a 996 engine into a similar MY Boxster and thus deduce the steps and highlight possible issues.

A couple members did it successfully on Rennlist.

You may want to search over there.

With our Boxster project car we did a 996 3.4L conversion. The tech article going over this conversion is on our site under Porsche > Tech Info (tab at top) and it's under Engine under the Boxster articles.
