Why the different fit on exhaust tips from 01-02?
i got in contact with the ebay sell of the tips that look like the x54's. they have a buy it now price of $350. he said he would do $279 if there were five of us willing to buy them. if you go to ebay and punch in "porsche 996 tips" you'll see the ones i'm talking about. they look pretty good, although i've never seen them in person.
Dansk tips are supposed to be pretty reasonably priced. Personally, spending a few hundred bucks on some tips seem silly. The powerkit tips look really fake IMO. You can see the single exhaust pipe on each side behind the dual ring.
I don't know about you guys but I'd just get a polishing wheel and polish up your existing tips and save the money for a nice set of tires.

dgray:
do your tips look like this? this guy is selling them off an 02 and they are supposedly OEM. he says they are dented like this from the factory to clear the cats.
does this part number look like yours. i know it's kind of hard to read.

DDog - My opinion is that those are not OEM.
Can't do a visual inspect of my tips right now (my p-car is hibernating up north at my ski house in NH - 3 degrees above zero in Boston now with an ice covered driveway!).
However, my memory tells me that my OEM X54 tips didn't have any inscriptions on the underside whatsoever. I also seem to recall that the nut on the underside was cleanly counter-sunken.
The chrome on those are also pitted, scraped, and the material around the screw holes are torn.

Did you look at the Zero Tek tips?

I have an 02 and bought the whole Ztek exhaust, and the FabSpeed bypass just like Sandoval's. I know it says 996 "Turbo" on the ad, but I spoke witht he guy at ZTek when I ordered the exhaust if these would fit my car and he insisted the year range was 99 to 04! I bought them anyway under the condition I could return them if they are wrong for my car. They should arrive today or tomorrow. I'll snap a few shots and give you some measurements. At $289 for the PAIR, it's worth the shot. Sandoval indicated the rest of the exhaust was top notch and fit perfectly, so I'm thinking the odds are on our side that these things will be good deal for at least some of us??

Thay are in Europe, but then again, so were our cars...

damn the dollar is weak right now. that's what i'm looking for but they're still a little pricey for tips. thanks for the link though. that's starting to get into oem x54 tips territory
220 Eros is about 315 bucks - for the pair. They are over $400 at Pelican Parts. And, I'm pretty sure we don't have to pay VAT. I paid $289 for the pair that doesn't fit. I really don't think it's a bad deal. I'm buying them tomorrow. I agree it's pricy for tips, but when you consider Porsche tips are about $700 for the pair.....
