P1397 + p1341

Hi Everyone,

I am getting the P1397 + P1341 codes after having the both Camshaft sensors replaced (and Actuator Solenoid)

I was told it could be that it is disconnected or lacking power.

besides checking if the plug is disconnected any other way to find out what the problem is?

Thanks

Derrick

If I read your post correctly it is not a good sign to have that work done to the car/engine only to get the car back with those codes.

And what you were told...? The shop should have taken the car right back -- and you should have insisted on this -- to have the possibly disconnected sensor connector connected or power checked.

Kind of brings into question the quality of the work.

For P1341 see the attached PDF.

For P1397: P1397 Camshaft Position Sensor 2 - Signal Implausible, Short to Ground, Short to B+ Potential causes:
- No power supply.
- Short circuit to B+
- Short circuit to ground.
- CMP sensor faulty

Wiring has to be suspect. It is possible that in working on the engine the connectors or wiring were damaged. The wiring/connectors are old and must be handled with care.

If you tackle this yourself you must keep that in mind. Do not approach the job like King Kong but like Tinker Bell. Well, maybe not like Tinker Bell, but be gentle. Brute force ain't called for in this case.

Thanks Macster, really appreciate the response and information.

Once he put the car back together and the sames codes were there he basically said to me, I'm sorry i have no idea what to do next, so he only charged me for parts.
I believe he told me he thinks it's the chain but to do that he would have to take the engine out again..etc...at that point i just took the car back home

Well, I'm no expert but the P1341 error code details suggests a wiring problem. A connector is not plugged in right, a pin or a socket is damaged (due to age/corrosion) or a wire broke and has nothing to do with any chain.

Now -- still not an expert -- it could be that in order to get at the hardness the engine might have to come out again. But you want to hear that from a tech in which you have a lot of confidence in and in what he says.

Why were the original repairs done? Did you have the same codes or issues with the performance...

Too bad the mechanic didn't check the harness at the same time. Sounds like Macster is on it with bad connectivity from the DME to the sensor.
