lol, that's all in the driver. for "some reason", i see more m car crashes at the track (and a buttload more on the street) than i do porsche ones. i think it's mainly because those driving the m cars are younger (er: not as mature) as a group than 996 owners, and think having a fast car makes them invincible. believe me, there is a reason insurance is the same for the 333 hp m3 as it is for 420 hp 996 TT which costs two+ times more. same driver ability, same day, same track, and the 996 eats the S54 m cars up (even when the S54s aren't grenading).

also, truth be known, the E36 M3 "feels" faster than the E46 M3. it's also more fun to drive and offers better feedback. btw, i have an SMG M3 too.
lol, that's all in the driver. <== Very true

i see more m car crashes at the track (and a buttload more on the street) than i do porsche ones. <== case by case basis, also, there are a lot more E46's on the road than Porsches. Same reason Honda Accords & Camrys' get stolen more often than a Buick Le Sabre.

i think it's mainly because those driving the m cars are younger <== very true

(er: not as mature) as a group than 996 owners, and think having a fast car makes them invincible. <== half way true, just because we are younger (27YO) does'nt mean were not mature. After all we did pay $70K+ for our cars didn't we. It's not that easy in life to buy a $70K car and an E46 M3 if you're immature.

there is a reason insurance is the same for the 333 hp m3 as it is for 420 hp 996 TT which costs two+ times more <== Sad but true, I pay more insurance for the M3 which I rarely drive than the C2 I drive daily.

same driver ability, same day, same track, and the 996 eats the S54 m cars up (even when the S54s aren't grenading). <== I don't think so. I use the M3 for track because I know It will "do better" than the 996. case in point, same day, same track, same driver <== I already did that, and I proved the 996 to be slower this is why I track the M3 instead of the 996.

I don't think my c2 can do 0-60 in 4.5 sec. It's a 99.

But yeah. I'm not saying its slow. Just "feels" slow in comparison.
Of course its faster than most other cars.

Thanks for all the interesting comments.

Also, I have to admit that although I drove many different cars before, I never been on track or to driving school.

Is the Porsche driving experience worth it? 1600 a day is not cheap.

Any other courses that are equal but better value?

The Porsche school is also a bit too far for me at Alabama. Anything closer to NYC?

Dac911, I live in NY, back in 2001 I attended the PDE at Road Atlanta for 2 days and it fun, got to meet some pros and drive a 996 which was very similar to mine, lots of seat time and good car control drills, expensive in comparison to Driver Eds of course but it was fun, at this stage I rather just do Driver Eds for seat time.

porsche is for sure much better than M3 or M5. I have 3 BMW in the past 6 years, and I recently sold my 2002 M5. The reason for it is that the "stock car" comparion BMW is not as precise as posrche weather it's breaking or cornering. I specially do not like M3 and M5's steering wheels, they are not feel as precise as porsche. M3 and M5 are the bigger house power cars, but the way of the design as sport cars are not as delicate as porsche.
BMW is good as luxuary car with some sport car ability but it's not a pure sport car. On the race track, the handling of BMW is not as good as Porsche either. I feel like understeer all the time and have to push hard to make the turn. For porsche, i have more confidence of driving it on track.
I don't think that I will get any BMW for long long time, even though i used to be a crazy BMW lover. now, i can't described to get rid of M5 and all other BMW and switch to porsche.
I can now sort of understand why people have both BENZ and Porsche, because for the luxuary u go with BENZ and for pure sports car u go with porsche.
996 is definely a super fast car on the track especially u put the racing tires one. if u look for something go fast for the straight line then u can go for M3, M5 or other V8 car.

The E36 was a better handling car than the E46. Just my opinion.

You guys are nuts. It's not 'slow'. It's slower than a TT, but not slow. Get a C2 on the track.... it's damned fast and faster than most all the cars mentioned in this thread on the track.
