Torque converter solenoid stuck "open"

I have been receiving an ODB error code that my torque converter solenoid is stuck in "open" mode, basically.

1) What effect does anyone think this is having on Performance?
2) Any long-term effect?
3) Do you have experience Replacing the solenoid - what was that job like for you?

For 3 I have no experience replacing the solenoid.

For 1 and 2 the info at this link may be of some value to you.
