Evo Sc
Evo Sc
i was browsing all through EVO's site and came across here in specific
sounds very promising and a lot of fun
read across forums that it only acts up when you want it to.. when you don't, it feels stock (which is great IMHO)
anyone did it and has feedback on reliability?
and how does it compare to a 996TT in terms of straightline acceleration? (just to get an idea on how 'fast' it would be in straights)

its been discussed to death...some like it some hate it....the performance is pretty good, but at around 10K, and its not CARB certified, so you cannot get a smog certificate. Do a search in the archives and you will see comapisons to TT's, stock and to other superchargers.
i've got it. i like it. it's very very fast. evo just broke into the 11.8's with a 3.6 evo 996. if you have the extra coin and you plan on keeping the car for a while, probably the best bang for the buck as far as pcar mods. nothing else will get you that much HP. you'd be lucky to get 30HP with chip, intake, and exhaust. i picked up about 150 rwhp with the supercharger ,headers, and mufflers.

runs like a stock 996 C2 with no problems caused BY the supercharger?
Yep. No problems (knock on wood). I have a data logger installed. I have actually managed to drive around all day without making any positive manifold pressure (ie no boost). The way I see it is that there is no more wear and tear on your car than stock, when not driving the car hard. The really impressive part is that the car remains in stock parameters (EGT, AF, etc) while under boost. It even idles at an AF of 14.7. I was skeptical too, but EVO really did their homework.
You do have to have realistic expectations for this setup. You can't expect to just floor it in any gear and have it go like hell. It only makes boost under full throttle at higher rpms. Much in the same way a stock 996 makes power, just a lot more of it. It does go like hell though.
I've had a few good kills recently with cars I used to be about even with.
I did about five roll ons with a 350Z the other day. I used to be neck and neck pre SC. Crushed him each and every time. I also crushed a crazy turbo'd miata from a stop and a roll on. There is also a 993 I used to have problems with from the roll on, not any more though
I even started to pull on an 02 Z06 before we ran out of room.
Like I said, if you have the cash and you're going to keep the car, this is the way to go and it's probably the only performance mod that will make a noticeable difference. Let's face it, 10HP on a 320HP car isn't going to translate to much on the street.

Thanks a lot deputy.
That was reassuring. Truth be told I would describe the 996 stock straightline acceleration as 'pathetic' compared to the other cars I drive. Or so it just feels. Sure it builds up nicely and is civil in what it does, but I sure as hell would love to have more.
Not sure what I'm going to do yet when I'm back home (hopefully October), but if it doesn't involve getting a TT; then I think the supercharge would be a sweet idea.
The search still does not work unfortunately, but not to worry LOADS of time to read up on the matter.
Thanks again.

Hey Deputy...have you gone for servicing since getting the SC? I'm curious as to what the dealers say when they see it and if they cause any issues with regular maintenance, etc.

From an independent non-Sc 996 owner (but somebody that has driven Deps car), the car is amazingly fast. Definately faster than a stock tt and (if they are stock) faster than anything in your sig
and smokes my car without a doubt. Like he stated, the power is very linear and not "laggy". Depending on where you live, there is probably an Evo dealer nearby that can do the work and service the car as well. Good luck!

Check with EVO. I have two porsche dealers within an hour of my house that are both EVO dealers.
i love mine! some hate it because they put it on an anemic tiptronic
and others wanted brutal power/torque which this kit will not give you. it has comparable HP to a stock TT but does not have the torque to match which leads you to believe it is slower. keep it on revvs and there is plenty of power. lug it down low and you'l be counting 1 one thousand, 2 one thousand .... whoooaaaa! just like a NA996 power curve but steeper
no CEL, MAF, oil line problems that some have had in the past but master installers at sharkwerks did mine
i have put on 4000 miles and no problemo.
haven't heard of any evoSC'd engines blowing up but i have heard of TPC SC'd boxster engines blowing (european car mag).
don't care about the warranty cuz mine's a '99. even without hearing of any blown evoSc'd engines, still be prepared to dish out some cash for an new engine... you know... just in case.
edit: forgot to mention that although there are a few who don't like it, most love it

It's a natural progression. People shopping for a SC should note that there is a noticeable difference between the 3.4 and the 3.6 it takes the stock difference and makes it more pronounced after the SC install. I've been in a 3.4 SC and it felt a little less torquey than mine.
i wouldn't say it sucks by any stretch. it'll still beat the pants off a stock 3.6 the SC just really amplies the stock 3.6 advantage over the 3.4
although, with your headers, mufflers, and especially the LWFW, I'm sure you're doing just fine
have you thought about throwing it on the dyno for the hell of it? i'd be curious to see if the LWFW would show up on the dyno as slightly earlier power delivery.
