Coolant leak!!!
Coolant leak!!!
I came out from my office today to notice a puddle under the car....topped off the coolant tank, drove it home, temps and gauges perfect....once parked in the garage, noticed a dripping from under my skid plate....any ideas...couldnt t ell it was too dark to see. Coolant tank was not wet...leak seemed to come from under the engine...water pump? ideas? I'll flatbed it to the dealer forst thing monday.
Does the leak have a tint to it? Is there a sweet smell? It would be fairly common to have a coolant tank leak - the exhaust heat eventually causes a crack in the plastic tank and thus the leak. I had the regional PCNA rep goodwill 75% of the cost to replace my tank, so my out of pocket was $100. If search was working, you could find a lot of threads on this topic.
its coolant..green...but its not coming from the tank...its coming from directly under the car...near the middle of the engine right in th ecenter...the tank was replaced last year and is bone dry on the outside....there is no smell...it does not seem to be hitting the engine and burning....its just dripping out and since I have a engine protection place, it seems to be collecting on the plate then dripping from there....My guess would be water pump....so where is the water pump on 996 engine?
Sorry.....I thought that...but the coolant is coming from UNDER the engine...The coolant tank is perfectly dry on the outside, underneath as well...if it were the coolant tank, like last time...it would leak onto the header and give off that sweet coolant burning odor....no odors...no burning or smoking....just a consistent leaking of coolant from the front underside of the engine.
Just heard from the dealer....IMPACT DAMAGE....something hit the underside of my car and that apparently broke a coolant pipe under the car. They are covering it under warranty. I even have a engine protection plate...so don't know whats up.....or how it happened, at least my car will be back tomorrow as good as new.
