advice please...

This is the situation...

I've recieved a Turbo bumper. The bumper is in good shape except for a few road scuffs at the bottom (deputydog could vouch for this) and I want to get it painted and installed on my '02 c4. There are only 2 porsche dealerships in Toronto and the one PFAFF wanted $2,100 for the paint and install. They went on and on about how difficult the job was and that there would be special brackets and modifications that were needed to install this. I really feel that the guy there is not experienced enough to give me a true quote. which by the way changes everyday like the price of gold.

To my understanding the bumper cover bolts right on, and all the holes line up and there is a little bar on the inside of my bumper that may have to be cut or painted black so it does not show. I think I could do this simple mod at home in my garage.

I think I may tell them to paint it (which by the way is over $600) and I'll install it my self. Advice on if this is an easy install and if there are any things to watch out for would be great.

thanks in advance.

re

I've just got my bumper taken off and also installed a lip at a high end paint shop, only cost me $700 Cad and the paint and finish is perfect!!! Don't get ripped off at Pfaff, their skills is not much different than high end body shops

My vote is for you to walk the part into a comp. shop and get them to spray it. You can do the install yourself and pocket the $1500.00

most work you'll do is to cut the bumper support off by about 2 inches on both sides or just buy the turbo bumper support and install that
and make a couple of brackets ineth bottom of the car to extend to the bumper evrything else should just slide in easy.

You found my DIY. It's an easy install. You don't have to cut the bumper if you don't want to. In my opinion, just get it painted and do it yourself.

I really don't like how Pfaff rip people off. I heard too many stories from them. I think you can either follow the write up to DIY or any good body shop can do it for you way less then $2K.

thanks everybody for your thoughts on this. I'm going to call a few other body shops to see if they could do the job. just wondering if anybody has any good/bad experiences with the paint chipping off afterwards. It looks like and easy install and I could make the little brackets to attach the bumper to the body. they have new guys at pfaff not only are they unknowledgeable, they are also way to expensive.

If anybody could refer me to a good bodyshop it would be much appreciated.

Kilrgt,
cool man I know you got my back. I've found a shop that will do the entire thing at a fraction of the price. they do many vipers, mercs, porsche, audi etc.

we'll go out for a spin once I get it.

pics will be posted for sure!!
