A nearly perfect day...
A nearly perfect day...
Recently I had one of the best pure driving enjoyment experiences of my life. I had a hunch that most of Austin would be at home cooking on Thanksgiving morning, so I took my 996 out near Lake Travis in Austin to make the Lime Creek Road run. This is a great road that twists, turns, and winds its way along the cliffs and shoreline of Lake Travis (a beautiful lake near Austin). The road begs you to run through the gears - up to 85 mph on short straights down to 15 mph on uphill near-hairpin turns.
I ran the best section of the road (about 15-20 miles) three times (end to end to end) and only encountered one other car going in my direction the whole time! I did pass a nice silver C4S going the opposite direction who obviously had the same idea I did.
On my final run, I stopped a few times and snapped some pictures. This day was perfect - 70 degrees, not a cloud in the sky, the turquoise blue backdrop of the lake, and the best 15 miles of road I know of in the finest car I've ever driven... This is what it is all about!

Nice One..
If I tried the same thing I would have probably received a ticket for parking in the 'Permit Only' spots even though no one else would have been around....

Longhorn - looks like you had a blast. Although decidedly colder, I have some spectacular roads south of Indianapolis, believe it or not. It'a an area called Brown County. Lots of twisties, changes in elevation, long sweepers and blasting straight-aways. Endless roads and almost no other traffic if you go at the right time. It is a blast on bike or in car - especially when you know the roads as it sounds like you do for your local lake drive. Can't say I'll have a 70 degree day for a holiday spin, however! Great pics...
