Need advice on wing

Guys,

I need help deciding on a rear wing. My original thought was to put on the GT3 aero kit (just put the side skirts on yesterday) However, the H&R springs lowered the car enough that it scrapes in/out of the driveway. I'm concerned that aero front will be too low and take a lot of abuse just leaving the house.

So now I'm thinking of going with a smaller, more suble wing and leaving the front end stock (maybe paint the small black pieces on each side artic silver). The attached pics are of a Tequipment style that is just loose fit on the car. I have a couple of concerns -

1) the look. It seems a little low/small to me. Maybe because Tim W's car with aero kit is in background.

2) The fit. this wing does NOT fit down into the trough, but instead just barely rests on the edges (there are brackets underneath to secure it).

3) Paint/body work. If I use this wing should I just paint it and mount it on top or ... should I have it permanently attached to the lid and have all the gaps around the edges filled.

suggestions?

Thanks!

Mike

i had that wing on my previous 996. i liked it. i bought the GT3 wing as well and had that installed later on. i was going to reinstall the carrera wing and just sell the GT3 wing as I didn't like it as much but ended up trading the car in with the wing attached. mine came with the wing installed at the factory so there obviously weren't any gaps. i would get it professionally installed and painted. if you ever wanted to go back to stock, used rear decklids are pretty cheap on eBay. if you ever wanted to step it up to the GT3 decklid, you must buy an entire decklid as it's chaped differently and made out of a different material so you couldn't just uninstall the carrera wing and switch it out. hope this helps

Lizard1,

Thanks! That does help. Were you running a stock nose or something with more ground effects?

That's an aftermarket version of the carrera wing. It looks ok, but you really need a front lip to balance it out AD wise. If you never drive fast or go to the track it's not a big deal, but somehow I think that's not the case
OEM is always better than any aftermarket, sad but true.
I think the Misha wing would be overkill on a C2 nb car, esp iof you're not gonna add a front lip. Even on a C4S, you must add at least a TT front lip with the misha wing or you're gonna have your hands full at the track( ask me how I know).

BTW if you leave the CF you NEED the CF mirrors it will look fantastic!

complete factory aerokit looks best on the mk1 gt3. get the factory bumper with the black splitter as Sandoval stated, this only cost $80 and can be easily replaced.
I think you can get away with an aftermarket wing, I prefer misha's wing to the carrera wing that you have, but first choice is the gt3.

Thanks for all the suggestions & responses!

Chris - I'm really scared of the aerodynamics too. Was thinking (hoping) that the surface area on this wing was similar to the stock retractable so I'd get similar downforce -- would not HAVE to have better front downforce.

Eric - I don't need help spending money! And getting a new front spoiler might delay the red calipers!

Micah - GREAT PIC!!

Raffi - I like the aero kit look a lot too -- its my 1st choice. But I don't want to be a big copycat and have my car look just like Eric and Tim W so .........

provided the prep costs are reasonable I think I'll keep this wing and have it mounted to the lid, then get the gaps filled and painted so it's all one unit. As for the front end -- I'm going to order 2 new (L&R) black covers - those little pieces that just barely show in front of the wheels on each side. I'll have them painted to match the car. That should help the sideview look a bit. Then I'll take the car out for a high speed run with the new wing, maybe compare the feel to Tim or Sandoval's car (you guys don't mind if I hit the SW controlled limiter on your cars, do you? ). That "feel" and maybe the look/cosmetics will help me decide on the front end.

Thanks!

Mike

Hey Mike,
I think you should listen to Tim and Erik and go with the Aero front bumper cover. There's a brand new one on ebay that looks like it may go pretty cheap. I've attaced the link but in case it doesn't work the item # is 8048499016.
I also spotted a 2nd generation GT3 rear spoiler asking $500 with no bids on it. I think EVO333 (Jon) has this set up and it looks great!
Cheers,
Stan

Found one more, this one isn't listed as a GT3 aero but from the picture that's what it looks like to me.
It has a buy it now of $429 which is a heck of a deal if it's an aero.
Item # 8048174214.

Hi Stan, Thanks for the compliment, but I don't believe it is the same wing... Mine is carbon fiber...
