What year 996? Open the fuse panel and pull out the little red fuse-looking thing that has a pic of the car hood on it. Grab some jump cables and attached the red (+) to the red fuse-thing and the black (-) cable to the door jam and see if that will pop your hood open without the battery.

Behind the right headlight is an emergency cable. Pry the bottom of the headlight assembly upwards slightly using a paint stirrer or similar flat object. Then reach between the bumper and headlight assembly with a coat hanger (wrapped in tape to prevent scratching). You should be able to grab the loop at the end of the emergency cable and pull it out. Now pull the cable firmly and the hood will open.

If you have a good hand you can stick you hand in an upward direction of the right side radiator duct and locate this cable.....

You'll get it.....

The fender liner can also be removed (front part only if you would like) for access to the cable. When I replaced my front bumper I ran a line from the hood cable to the tow plug in case I need to access the hood in the absence of electical power.
