Upgrade stereo Question
Upgrade stereo Question
I have the factory stereo but not the premium sound one. i was thinking of upgrading the stereo but not with dramatical modify on it. someone told me that by only changing the in head dash unit will make big difference is that truth? any recommendation?
What year is your car?
On the 03's...they use the MOST system. It would cost significant money to change the headunit and not worthy of the price involved because of fiberoptics. It would be better to change the whole thing out.
If you are considering a change on a pre 03, the best thing you can do to start, is change out the speakers, then them amp. You can actually get fairly decent sound using the Becker, if you want to keep it.

if your really in a budget i would reccomend you changing the headunit witha n afetrmarket one, and changing the speakers on the 996.. if your in a budget the premiere series speakers from pioneer sounds good. best bang for the buck
if u dont want to switch the headunits, just get better speakers on your 996 the one's in the 996 are horrible..

This is what I am in need of. I don't want to spend a fortune. I don't need anything crazy... I listen to mainstreem music nothing that needs to shake the **** out of the car... Just a good sound. I want to keep the stock deck as I will be changing to the Rosen R6500 when NAV is integrated. So what speakers would be of choice I am in the same boat My car has the entry level system. No door speakers just dash and rear. I don't mind spending some money not a fortune but enough to make it sound better... I was annoyed to hear crackling coming out of my passenger side speaker this morning.
Thanks for the suggestions.

sandoval, it is all a matter of budget..
you can spend anywhere from 200-800 on front speakers alone, i personally like.. a/d/s, diamond audio,& focal (i have heard jl audio is good) too... but they are in the high price bracket..
as for low end pricing i have liked the premiere series speakers for the budget conscious indicidual..

Yes, there is a great shop in Livermore, if that isn't too far for you. It's called Ames Audio. I'm sorry I don't have the number handy, but these guys are really good.
If I were you, I would discuss it with them and perhaps consider some speaker changes since you don't have door speakers that is a nice simple upgrade that won't cost too much. before I could recommend a brand, I would discuss with them what style/sort of music you listen to and let them recommend the separates for you.
They also do custom carbon fiber work too.
