You had an RMS on your Turbo?

Wow, that is interesting. I thought they were immune to such things.

Sorry to hear that. My 03 developed this problem before 1,000 miles!

Sorry to hear this Greyghost...

Is it the crank shaft oil seal that's gone, is that what's termed as main real seal ?

There has been mention of the early 996's - mine's a 99, but only with 11,000 miles on the clock so far and I have noticed any problems like this or other wise (fingers crossed - English saying for luck). When I brought it I was warned about the crank shaft oil seal and this was checked when buying the car 12 months ago - hence asking whether this is what you are referring to.

To my limited knowledge it is the seal between the engine and the flywheel at the transmission. Oil is slowly dripping from that joint.

Crank (RMS) Seal Picture

The above picture if from my old Boxster. The tool for measuring the bore to ensure concentricity of your crank is inserted where the seal would actually go. And additionally, just below the RMS is the cover for the ISS. In this picture you can see it. Smaller diameter circle. The transmission slips right in here. The flywheel is bolted right the area around the crank, you can't see the holes because of the tool. Of course, this is on a Boxster, so things are backwards.
