Upgrading 3.4L 996

Hey all

After today's AWE Dyno event, I am urging for some power gains. I realize I have 3 choices:
1) Supercharger
2) Lighten up
3) Trade for a Turbo

#3 is most likely out and #1 is out for the moment. This leaves me with #2.

After coming home from the meet, I placed an order for some GT3 seats. I know i want to lighten the rear with the Bypass Pipes from Fabspeed or if AWE comes out with something in 2 weeks I also am removing the rear seats and taking out the spare and all that nonsense in the front.

I also am going on the Jared diet!

In addition, I have a question for those with the GT3 console delete. Since I have the GT3 seats can the heated seats be adapted for this function? if not, I can just go ahead and get rid of the lower front console right?

I also would like to add some performance parts to the engine. I am not so hip with the lingo about the engine, but how much would it cost to get a new lightweight flywheel, Race cams, race rods and pistons.

Also my friends with non-porsche cars always replace the hoses in their cars. Is there a manufacturer for porsche hoses?

So in conclusion these are the mods that are going to happen in the next 5 weeks:

1) GT3 seats
2) Remove rear seats
3) Muffler Bypass Pipes
4) Remove spare tire and front boot stuff
5) Delete center console
6) Subway for lunch and dinner daily
7) RECOMMENDATIONS FOR ENGINE MODS NEEDED!!!

Respectfully,

Preeth

Keep the spare, it's more important than the weight savings.

1) GT3 seats - YES
2) Remove rear seats - YES
3) Muffler Bypass Pipes - YES
4) Remove spare tire and front boot stuff - KEEP THE SPARE
5) Delete center console - YES
6) Subway for lunch and dinner daily - YES
7) RECOMMENDATIONS FOR ENGINE MODS NEEDED!!! - OTHER THAN A SUPERCHARGER, DON'T BOTHER, NO REAL GAINS

Not sure what wheels you have, but this is also something that can help with that unsprung weight issue you're having. Go with some nice lightweights. Several manufactures carry them, or go with the Carrera 5spk, those will further reduce your numbers.

I would keep the spare though...JMHO of course. And if you are really looking for a weight reduction without concern for comfort, rip the AC out too. And how about a light weight battery?

Well I would love to do this but its out of the question in terms of money. I don't want to give up my baby and take someone elses baby.

I have the Carrera Sport Design II-these are the rims that are used on the GT3, so I am assuming they are pretty light. I would also like to have a lightweight battery, but what are their life spans and how reliable are they? What do they cost? and where can i get a good one?

yep, i've got gt3 seats, console delete, turbo brakes, PSS9s coilovers, GT3 sways, and a whole laundry list of other stuff, but my favorite mod BY FAR is the supercharger which really transformed the car - even with the stock exhaust i'm using. #2 would be coilovers or GT3 seats with #3 being the one of those two you didn't pick for #2.

I agree that the Supercharger is the most efficient and no bull**** option that I can go with, but you do have to admit, its reliability and progress has not been tested. At the AWE meet, I was talking to some of the participants and they were considering the SC, but were still suspicious on the reliability. Also doesnt the SC's effect on the engine depend on driver style. If you keep your foot on the pedals as often as possible, the cars gonna get F-ed up, but if you are easy on it, the car will stay fine. I mean, whos gonna be an easy driver when you supercharge your car? isnt the point of spending 10,000$ - is to use that power?
