another unlucky rms victiom

it's an 'o4 with 22k and the dealer found an rms leak along with a leak in the valve covers...was told they took the engine apart and basically rebuilt it...now does that mean when i hit the next 15k from now....will it be a minor 15k service or the 30k service? dealer says 30k but somehow i dont trust them....since they rebuilt and changed all the oil and etc....

can someone give me some input on this...thanks

That doesn't sound right. Leak in the valve covers - no big deal. RMS requires that the engine be dropped and the seal replaced. There is no rebuilding of the engine. As a general rule, PCNA does not allow the dealers to rebuild engines. If the repairs are that serious, they provide a new (re-manufactured) engine.

Actually, they drop the transmission...the engine doesn't have to be dropped in the case of replacing the RMS (unless something has changed). However, different when they replace the valve covers I would imagine.

And some dealers don't even replace the oil. Depends.

I'm not sure the need for "rebuilt", sounds odd. Having had a few (6) rms' replaced and a couple of iss....they didn't rebuild anything, simply replaced the seals. (And a clutch once)
