Supercharged?
Supercharged?
hello to all,
I will make the great jump to install a kit supercharged on my 996 c4 of 1999. I will like to have your opinions and experiences on the various kits, if you are content, if there were broken engines and if you advise me to install one of them. And if so, which?
I saw 2 marks until now: tpc and evom
it's complicated to install for a garage?
Thank you for all your councils
Vince

Evo
-linear power delivery, excellent top end
~150 sold supposedly none of the engines have exploded.
-if you are a competent mechanic then the install should not be a problem (installing the fuel injectors is the hardest part)
GIAC tuning, unfortunately you may have to send in your ECU to EVO for reprogramming.
TPC
-has more torque at lower rpms but flattens out in the high ranges but "HP sells cars TQ wins races"

-in my opinion, very loud annoying whine
-piggy-back" ECU easier to install
-i've "heard" that it takes a little more time to install the SC but not necessarily harder.
another alternative, Ruf. if you live in europe then you will have better support than either EVO or TPC. it is 90% more expensive but you do get a 2 year warranty on the engine.
in my perfect world i would have a TPC supercharger that is not annoyingly loud with EVO/GIAC programming.

bottom line. the ability to have these serviced and maintained by competent mechanics is critical. that would be my biggest concern. without the proper support, you'll be swinging in the wind with your car out of commission. not everybody has the technical expertise to install and maintain these. in retrospect, i wouldn't let anybody do the install unless they had two or three sucessful installs under their belt. that is my big issues with the RUF. they have to fly in mechanics and rent garage space. you may never have a problem, but it's a much bigger hassle if you ever need them.
personally, i would go with whatever kit has the most competent mechanic close to you. they're all good kits. i'm sur eyou won't be dissapointed with any of them. although your wallet will be a lot lighter with the RUF

Thanks a lot!

There's enough of the EVO ones around and dealers depending upon where you live of course but that might work for you...
PS Karlooz, if/when we have time (like in 3 years time!) we should get ours done for customers to try before they "buy" lol!

excellent idea. i know it would have pushed me over the edge much quicker
.even better idea would be to have another car with a TPC unit. i can donate mine for testing purposes
