I am pretty sure it was oiled anyway.
Take a look at it, if the element looks "reddish", it is oiled......it would look off-white to white if it is not oiled (as in after cleaning, prior to re-oiling)

I was thinking about cleaning mine off and then giving it a light coat.

Does anyone have the measurement for the cone filter? My car is at home and I am at work. I want to order that dryfilter to be safe.

I don't know why people clean their K&N filter every year.... I have had my K&N filter for 3 years and about 40,000 km and have not cleaned it yet... I inspect it.. it's still pink and has some dirt on the bottom end...

K&N specifically states in the instructions that the filter will work better with dirt trapped underneath (as that acts as a natural filter) and recommend service intervals of 50,000 MILES (approx 80,000 km)...

no need to clean these things every year...

I bought this one

AEM 21-2049DK AEM DryFlow Air Filters - 3.50" Short Neck 9" Element

$44 from horsepowerfreaks.com

I measured the KnN and has ~8" element, 3.5 intake. 9" should fit in the area where the original filter was.

later

Maybe it's still clean after 3 years because the dirt goes right thru it ?

How do they know if you drive in the clean mountain air of Maine , or a dirt road in Arizona?

If these were as horrible as some on the board seem to think that they are wouldn't there be a whole lot more issues with the millions of these things that have been sold. I know of a ton of people who use aftermarket intake kits and they all have a very similar filter to the K&N.

The only time I have heard of a motor blowing up due to an intake was a kit that had a cold air tube that ran down into the lower front bumper. The person drove through a flooded area and submerged the filter, ouch!
