Installed the K&N but have a question

Well I have had the car about a month and the mods have began. I swapped the stock exhaust for a FabSpeed. Wow....love it. I just dropped in the K&N and HOLY SNIKEYS...what a big difference. My question is when I have the car on and its at idle I can hear it suckin air in bigtime. I guess since its the big open filter you hear it vs the factory air box. Is this right? Anyone else have this noise? On another note the wife and I went out to eat with some friends and guess whos car got to stay up front with the valet....hehe. Not even my buddies M5 that he drove. Haha. He was pissed.

That sounds about right. When I installed the K&N you do hear it suck in. I'm with you, sounds awesome and definite increased performance.

That sucking you hear is the sound of $$ bills coming out of your wallet for a future engine rebuild .

These filters are not intended for everyday use. They are less restrictive, read: "they let more dirt thru" ( which winds up in the engine)

Just make sure you change the engine oil more frequently , especially if you live in a more dusty area
(Dirt in the oil makes a great polishing compound Lol)

I guess this would be the case regrdless of the vehicle...can you imagine
how many 100 of thousands of cold air kits have been sold.
I have had a K&N cold air pack on my Chevy truck for 3-4 yrs.

One would think that a class action suit would have been filed by now by all those people
whose engines have been ruined using a K&N filter.

Dirt won't get into the oil unless the piston rings are INSANELY blown. Air going in the intake tract only goes into the combustion chamber.

I think the tolerances in a Porsche engine are a bit different from a Chevy truck.
In any event, you would not win a lawsuit with K&N . Why do you think they have that BIG WARNING on their oil filter not to use it in cold weather , or if it's raining or.......

What I can't figure out is why people ignore it and install them anyway.
But , if you're OK with it , it's your car . Lol

The 100's of thousands of people that have an intake or the company and their specs or other fellow enthusiats. I had a k&n on a ford truck for almost 80k miles and not one problem. But hey it was a ford.

I wrapped my k&n filter in a folgers filter #p402.

The outer filter really collects a lot of small grit that the k&n would let thru.

My KnN did not come with an cleaning/oiling kit yet it did come with a fine sock that goes over the Filter. No where in the instructions does it say to oil it, it says to install the fine sock only. So, in other words, no oil.

Kit is great.....just gotta watch the wx, i guess.

jorge

ps: i do plan to get the AEM filter for both my truck and p-car eventually.

The filter should have been wrapped in plastic & on that plastic it should state that the filter is pre-oiled so do not add oil....all of them come this way
that I have seen.
