Short Shifters

I just installed a Schnell Short shifter. I was disappointed for it seems there is more effort required in Shifting. Is this true with all short shifters? The Schnell shifter and B&M look exactly the same. So I don't know if moving to a different brand would make a difference. Would replacing the shift linkage with the EVO or agency power http://www.vividracing.com/catalog/p...ducts_id/15560 help reduce the effort?

In all my experience with short shifter kits you're going to feel some knotch-type play. Although I understand that Porsche's kit is the one you'll want if you don't want this sort of play.....

Good Luck,

Porsche's kit is EXACTLY the same as the B&M, except it comes preassemled in the shift housing...it uses the B&M parts. The answer is yes all short shifts will increase the shift effort except the under car kits...B&M makes one of those as well.....The increased effort is the only negative to the short shift install....my wife who occasionally drives the 996 hates them, since I had one in my old Boxster, so no short shift in the 996....I kinda agree...I like the feel, but the increased effort is not welcome....

Initially the effort required will be more than you are use to- The factory shifter in these cars is absolutely horrible ..

Give it some time - you will begin to appreciate it...

For effortless shifting porsche does make a "tiptronic"option LOL

I've always liked the feel of the notch since it feels like you can actually feel something there...... I guess it's sort of like the old military carts.....

I actually like the notchy feel of the BM over the factory feel. The extra effort is not really that much. I feel a like I can really feel when It goes into gear. The B&M is by far one of the shortest short throw shifters I have ever driven. When I let a few (very good) friends get in and drive my car they wonder if the car is actually in first gear? But after driving it they say they hate thier shifters

Bad thing is that if you sell your car some people will not agree with us.... But who's talking about selling anyway....
