996 Headers

Hey guys, looking to add headers into the mix on my car(gemballa exhaust currently) and was wonderign why most headers for our cars are not of equal length, but some are equal. any reason to choose one over the other? brands you would reccommend?

Just port & polish the stock headers. The shorter the better...which would be stock in many cases.

If you dont have the proper KNOWLEDGE to port and polish, dont try it..its not a simple thing....find a good machine shop that is experienced in this....

It should cost about $600-700 for the pair. Buying new headers misses the point. The stoch headers are the best length for the car (which you may not get with aftermarket headers). Porting and polishing allows for better air flow. And yes, unless you are a wrench...haver it done for you. There are some suppliers that will send you P & P headers for core exchange as well.

Are you talking about port matching the headers to the head? Since the tubing for the headers is made from either TIG or laser welded mandrel bent tubing there doesn't seem to be much one could gain from polishing the tubing. It's possible that the weld joints could be cleaned up but that would be difficult at best.

Has anyone done this before? I know it works wonder in Subaru header, but that's because those are cast iron header with thick wall. For our headers, I'm really wondering if there is any more space to port out. I have never seen 996 header outside of the car, it's just my guess from looking at the picture.

If it could be done, can anyone point out any shop that can do the job?

You started the thread with ...you wanted to add headers...who cares if they are TT or NA? I didn't say you would get any performance benefit, I just basically implied NEW aftermarket headers are less improvement than P&P your stock headers. Perhaps I misunderstood your initial post...If so...I'm sorry!

P&P...port and polish...and yes basically. What do you want new headers for? If you think you will get HP I think you will be sadly disappointed.

Ask to see a dyno.

There's a sucker born every minute...some like the chromed/ceramic...whatever. You know people will spend money just to say they got such and such headers.
