Wierd fact: My 2000 c2 is supposed to have 300hp, however the manual states that it has 296hp.

The 1999-2001 GT3 Specs:

Type : Aluminium Water Cooled,Flat-6
Displacement : 3600 cc
Power : 360.1 bhp (268.5 kW) @ 7200 rpm
Torque : 370 Nm @ 5000 rpm
Redline : 7800 rpm

THE GT3 motor is the same block used in the GT1, TT, GT2 motor. They use matched halves for more strength. Nothing to do with 993 technology. The GT3 will go to higher RPM's than any other the other cars, is lighter than other Porsche models, and has different suspension setup. the "points" on contact for the suspension is different and plays a huge roll in the superior handling of the GT3 over standard 911's. GT3 will have a stiffer ride than a stock 911 (who doesn't want that ) and will be louder on the inside due to less sound dampening material.

if you want the ultimate 911 (in my thoughts) get the GT3. I would take it over a turbo, but that is mainly cause I love the track.

if you are not going to be using the car for the track that much, consider a nice C2 or C4S

The 99-01 GT3 WAS NOT available in the states, Europe only...the GT3 mkII 02+ was the first 996 GT3 available in the US.

Newport,

You are correct, however, I believe the original poster only wanted information on the engine types on the 996 C2 vs. GT3 variants. He did inqure on whether any particular model was sold in the United States.
