Specific engine differences between 996 GT3 and 996 Carrera C2

Hey all. Still learning as much as possible about 996's before I pick one up soon. I've learned the GT3 is more powerful (exact HP I'm not sure of) but I do know it's significantly more powerful than the 3.4 liter 996 C2 (296 HP).

What are the exact difference that makes the GT3 more powerful. I know they're both N/A.

I'm talking about the 996 GT3 and not the 400+ HP 997 GT3. I know other improvements are weight advantage, brakes, stiffening etc... Anything else between the two are helpful. Thanks.

Oh...and I've always wondered what made the naturally aspirated RUF RGT more powerful also.

The GT3 is a more higher reving car, it uses the old 993TT 3.6l block(i believe), no sunroof, no traction control, there is a bunch more but as more people chime in you'll get a much clearer answer...dunno if that helps...

yes the 996 gt3 has an entirely different engine...closer to a TT egine withiout the turbos....it has 415 hp stock(i think)....you can get that closer to 450 with mods....all without turbos...The 997 gt3 motor is an update to the 996 gt3 motor...

side note of info, only 1999 Carreras has 296 hp, 2000 and 2001's had 300 hp then it went to 315 hp for the other years.

i dunno, because it was 320 but i think with the facelift the emissions in the US gave it 5 less making 315 hp like hte turbo was 420 but we only got 415 hp. no other cars had this emissions thing, weird maybe someone knows for sure.

c2 is a wet sump and gt3 is a dry sump... for racing, c2 has issues with possible oil starvation at high g's. There is a kit that you can buy that add more oil pump in the front/rear of engine, I believe its also part of a power kit option that people hardly bought. The gt3 on the other hand was designed closley to the 993 setup, but still is a water cooled engine... Gt3 is an awesome N/A engine.

i think it was 320 in europe and 315 in the US. dont ask me why but thats what i think it was. the 1999-2001 models had the same here and in europe. but remember europe has less strict restrictions.

That a big plus right there...no RMS...my dad's C4S already had a problem at like 3000-4000 miles...but luckly it was still under warrenty...
