Introduction With A Question...
Hey!
I figured it was about time for me to make an official appearance here. I've been reading and following the 996 forum for about 4-5 months now. I guess im somewhat of an addict...i check it at least 1-2 times daily. This P-Car stuff is a little on the addicting side
. Anway, I purchased my first porsche about 4 months ago after about 9 months of searching; a beautiful triple black MY01 911 996 cabriolet for $35,000 (ebay) which i thought was a pretty decent deal. Not loaded, but well optioned full leather, xenons, hard-top, bose, ect.
I'll post up some pics as soon as i can figure out the resizing rules
Now to the question!!!! Here in michigan its "beginning to look a lot like christmas" We had our first dusting of snow about a week ago, so i think its about time to put the P-car up for the winter and begin the fun (and expensive) process of adding toys and goodies (other than the mandatory V1 that i already installed
). The first thing i would like to do is get some new wheels; preferably 19"s. I found a set that i fell in love with and here is the link:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/20-PO...40115627QQrdZ1
However, after calling the seller and asking some necessary questions. I found out that these bad boys weight 27lbs EACH!!!!!!!! Which put them roughly 3 times heavier than stock wheels if i've done my research correctly...ie not good.
Does anyone have any reccomendations on wheels that have a VERY similar style to these, but maybe slightly less destructive to my handling. I plan on tracking this car occasionally, but i also drive pretty hard on the streets at times (live in the country).
Thanks for Any/All help! This place is awesome!

Sorry, but your calculations are wrong. Stock wheels don't weigh 9 pounds my friend.

[EDIT] This chart is obviously in Kg...my error. Next question...how much will you notice a ~7 lb weight difference per wheel on handleing/braking/acc???
sorry for being an idiot

I don't know the weight of the stock wheels. Your chart says 22.8lbs for 18 996 OEM Cast.... However, remember that since you're going up to 19 inch, the wheels will be heavier than the equivalent 18 version. 27lbs isn't THAT heavy for a 19 inch wheel.
EDIT: I just noticed the link you posted is for 20 inch!

Yeah i just noticed that too, that same company makes them in 19's i posted the wrong link. 20's are a little excessive for a 996, i cant imagine they would fit that well?!?
FYI...I would STAY AWAY from those wheels....I almost bought a set from that company..nice wheels and not very expensive...BUT they are not the correct sizes...they will stick out and rub in the rear....plus they are 3 piece STYLE one piece wheels that are indeed heavy for what you get. Your car looks alot like mine did when I first got mine....I would say when it comes to P-cars, you get what you pay for 99% of the time so try not to skimp on mods....they cost what they cost....I have 19's and they are actually LESS weight than my 18 turbo chrome wheels...so if you mod correctly the 19's will be a plus not a minus....
Hi, beautiful car. I think you'd be much happier getting the SSR GT3. You can get it on tirerack.com

http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/Displ...2FPolished+Lip
Comes in 18" and 19"
Weights are 23 and 25 lbs (front, back) for 18
and 25 and 26 lbs for 19.
Prices range from 550 to 670 depending on size and width. Build the one you want on tire rack. Price is reasonable (for Porsche fitment wheels), and looks are sweet.
I think it looks much better than the one on ebay, and SSR makes excellent quality wheels. I hope this works out.
