Why Is It That Nothing Feels Like the 911 Platform ?
I just got back from a test drive with a friend regarding the new BMW 335 Coupe - 300 hp twin turbo, 6 speed. The car was nice but truly night and day from my Black Beauty. I couldn't hear the exhaust note, the power was ok, just ok - nothing to write home about. The handling was tight and sharp, steering was on target, brakes were responsive. Then I got back in my car and felt, DAM why is it that no other car conveys this feel of perfection, responsiveness, confidence and power (after all my mods that is)
Anyway, at the end of the day it just makes my proud and grateful that I have my 996.
P.S. Don't get me wrong, BMW are great cars, just a diffrent type of car.....

You said it yourself: "...(after all my mods that is)"
I mean I love my 996 for other reasons, but with a chip and a few bolt-ons, the 335 will run rings around it. And at half the cost new. True, NOT the same. But faster.
Porsche can only get away with the excuse that HP isn't everything for so long. After a while, you gotta step up the HP with the competition. And don't charge an extra $9 grand for another 25 HP.
So let's all add the new turbo 3 Series to the growing list of cars you should not mess with on the road. Along with the Evo and WRX.

i don't even bother making the comparisons...I'll hopefully have the best of both worlds soon enough! 335 should be on my driveway, I hope, in the next week or two. Will complement nicely with the TT. woohoo!

I am sure he was pushing 400hp....but we are splitting hairs now....I like my Porsche for the entire package, there are faster cars, but none has the combo of comfort, design, speed, feel, handling, etc....thats why I bought a Porsche.

Hopefully by then, the tuners will have figured out how to get some killer gains from "breathing mods" and a chip. Then itll just need some coilovers and some nice wheels (dont like the oem wheels) and itll be a nice looking, comfy dd, good all around cruiser.

Unless i REALLY set the world on fire...then ill go GTR

Agreed.. the 335's got lots of potential and at a reasonable price to boot. But a little too much compromise. We're all here because of the hard edged nature of the 911, and that's what sets the two apart. It's ironic how a modded 335 would be newer, faster, more civilized, AND cheaper. But somehow a 911 is still "better".
Yeah, well it says alot that a STOCK car feels and performs like this...there is NOTHING like 40+ years of development of a platform. The downside the 335 and mods is this...how will the engine hold up to an extra 100 hp? How will the turbos hold up? what will the driveability be? How will the ride be with a more sporting suspension? These are all unknowns....With a basically stock 911, you KNOW. In 2 years we will know about the durability of the 335 after being modded. We will all know the ups and downs and pros and cons...now even stock though, thats not a bad car at all. I am just not a HP chaser, and I lik ethe entire package that Porsche gives us. It is reliable, fun, performs amazingly, and my car is QUITE civilized with PSS9's, sitting on 19s, with NAV, Sat radio, an AMAZING audio system, and when the weather is great (like 320 days out the year here in SoCal), I can drop my top! Sorry thats an UNBEATABLE package. Even it it only has a measely 300hp and goes 0-60 in 5 seconds and tops out at about 175....I'm off to drop my top and grab some lunch....
