Hi there,

Thought I would de-lurk and say hello.

I am a new Porsche owner, a 2002 996 Targa in Seal Grey with Technic package.

Probably one of the few Canadians on the board.

Find this forum quite informative, good work!

Cheers

Welcome Carbon-00. This is a great forum so just post away. Lots of fun and good info here. BTW, a Targa sounds like a great choice for your part of the country.

Definately drive it in the winter with snow tyres

Here is a pic up at the cottage by Lake Huron, you can wind it up to 220/kmh plus.

Plenty of safe fast roads and the OPP don't try to hunt you unless you drive like an idiot in town.

Cheers

No , the Quebec Prov Police will hunt you without mercy, be very careful on the major routes, they love out of province plates and the driver in Montreal are insane...other than that have fun, a great city, some good tracks and driving schools

Angry Also a new member

I purchased my lifelong dream on July 14th, an '02 Lapis Blue 996 with a S/B interior. Technic package, supple leather, Comfort package etc. 14K miles.

On July 17th the engine started sputtering and eventually stalled. I had the car towed to a dealer and they informed me that it could be the "cam actuators" that had gone bad. That was on the 18th. Now here we are on Aug. 1st and I still don't have the car back. As it turns out Porsche told them to crate the engine up and send it to them and they would provide a replacement. The replacement came in last wednesday and after numerous promises that were not met I called Porsche in GA and they promised that the car would be done and delivered to me by tue Aug. 5th. I am thorougly disgusted with the service department for making promises that the couldn't deliver on.

If it was going to take three weeks they should have been honest and told me that from the beginning.

BTW, I purchased the car from a wholesaler and not a dealer so I suspect that the dealer was not in any great rush to provide service. However, as Porsche told me that is no excuse.

I can't wait to get it back, but I am worried now that this may be a sign of things to come. The dealer insists that the replacement engine will be as good as new and that the problem with the cam actuators was not something that could have been detected upon a routine inspection. So I have no recourse against the wholesaler who sold me the car other than to have it repaired under warranty.

Thorougly disgusted in NJ.

Hey, you got a new engine at no cost, enjoy...I have learned that there are always, always, always delays with cars....fact of life...you'll quickly forget the delay once you unwind the car on some safe back road...cheers

I live in essex co. nj. And the car was taken to Paul Miller. The tow truck driver advised to take it to Ray Catena.

I really hope this is the end of the problems.

I don't think the engine will be new but will be a rebuilt one. Not sure that it really matters.

I'll keep you informed and post pics when I get it back.

Nova, I have my car serviced by Miller

on several occassions under warranty and have 0% complaints. They always obliged to provide rental at no cost. On one occassion it took longer then promised, but it was blamed on lack of parts.
I trully hope you get your car in the shape that you will make you happy. Repleacement engines should be as good as new, but are subject to break-in period.
If I see Lapis Blue diriving around slow, I will honk
