Short Shift Kit installed.

I decided to take advantage of Bumperplugs.com holiday sale on the B&M Short Shift Kit. (I am not affiliated with Bumperplugs, I just appreciate a good deal. Thanks BP.com). I just installed it this weekend. My question is this. Why don't all the 911s come with this already? It makes a HUGE difference for the GOOD! I come from driving an S2000 for the last 5 years and the gearbox in the car is amazing. The 996 was rowing a boat! The trow was way too long and rubbery feeling. With the B&M kit the shifts are short and crisp, very positive engagements. My driving experiece is much better now.

The install took 2 hours as advertised and would go much faster the second time.

Andy

You said your install "would go much faster the second time" does that mean you have to install it twice?

No, no need to install it twice. I just meant that now I know how to take the center console out, etc. that it would go faster. I suppose I could help someone else put one in and it would not take as long.

I have been "afraid" to buy one because I am afraid to install it myself. I am so terrible at DIY...that is why I did not jump on the deal.

Are you in So Cal by any chance? If you were able to help I would possibly buy the shift kit...I could buy lunch or dinner? Maybe a rep point?

I have the B&M on mine too, you are right about the stock throw, it's more "John Deere" than "Porsche".

I got the fellas at sharkwerks to install mine, back when they were akkurat.
Since then I've had the center console out a few times and feel comfortable with what's down there. I think if I went around again, I'd probably do the install myself, like you did.

What's next on your mod list ?

:-)

Sorry AsianImage, I'm in the the Nor-Cal, San Jose area.

OneTime: sorry I missed the sarcasm, I'm new here.

So far the mods have been the SSK, clearsidemarkers and fitting a rear facing carseat in the back!

I probably wont be in the market for anything else for awhile. The car has the PSE already so the exhaust it done for the time being.

Maybe a ducktail type moderate wing in the future? C4S front bumper?

Right now the priorities are more aligned with starting Jr's college fund.

What Andy meant to say is he will get next an Evo Intake, and a GIAC ECU flash to release those additional 25-30+ hp

Doesn't Porsche sell the SSK kit that is identical to B&M (and I think made by B&M) for $400 as an option?

400 for the kit and dealer rates on the install, $800 sounds about right for that option. I still think it should be designed right into the stock car.
