? for those with PSE
Should I order my car with Factory PSE, or Have it installed afterwards, What would I lose/gain, advantage/disadvantage? I'm not quite sure if I understand the switch operation, But I like the Idea of controlling the operation. Thanks
PSE is $2,400 when ordered from the factory. It comes with a dash switch that allows you to have it in sport or quiet mode, which sounds like the stock exhaust. If you have it in sport mode, it will automatically go to quiet mode between 35 & 45 mph (to comply with some European noise laws).
I had PSE installed after I bought my Carrera from dealer inventory. Paid $1,550, no tax, shipping included (from Brandywine Porsche), and paid $100 to have only the mufflers installed at an independent Porsche shop. The full install (electronics and vacuum system) takes about 8 hours and includes taking apart a bunch of the interior to run the wiring harness from the engine compartment to the fuse panel, and you run the risk of self-inflicted squeaks and rattles.
I guess the question is, do you want to pay an extra $700 or so to have the switch? My answer was no. I've had PSE on my last 2 Carreras and would never want to turn it off. Some are concerned it might be too loud driving in your neighborhood early in the morning, but if you keep the RPMs under 3,000 it's not too loud. Also with the factory install you have the annoying cut off between 35 & 45 mph (I had it on my last Carrera), but there's a pretty easy mod to make that "feature" go away.

If I had to order a car over again, I would probably get the PSE option from the factory.
I would definitely disable the automatic cut-off, but I think the dash on-off switch would be kinda cool.
Either way, PSE is an awesome addition.

I had it installed (without the switch) after I bought the car. I bought the exhaust on the internet brand new for $1100.00 including shipping and had it installed at LMS in Houston for a mere $100 in 2 hours (Very knowledgeble guys I should say).
It sounds awesome and always on
The only reason Porsche put the cut off switch was the noise pollution laws ONLY in Switzerland and they decided to include it for the rest of the world too, I guess would be cheaper for the production line this way.
