Take-off technique
Take-off technique
I have finally got my new engine run in and while trying to take off from a standing start get the axle stomp so how do I stop this? Is this a suspension issue or poor technique?
Thanks for the advice all

UNLESS.....
you have PSM. If you have PSM...and you try to "light em up" or get some spin...YOU WON'T! The PSM will violently shake the rear end and it feels like your car is going to fall apart.
I did that once...on the famous 110 freeway here in LA. This freeway is one of the only ones that you actually jump on from a complete stop. No on ramps here.
Try turning off your PSM and see if its different. Should react like a regular ol car and you should launch better.

Thought you learned you lesson on the "PSM" shut off.....

It is best to launch the car hard with the help of a friend. Generally, your friend will stand next the passenger side rear window while you bring the car to redline and slide your foot off the clutch. This will make it easier for your friend to shift the tranmssion you left behind into 2nd.

In a 996 portfolio book that I have, it sez that to have a consistent 4.8 sec 0-60 time, dial the tach to 3500-4000 and drop the clutch. It helps when you do it on a car other than yours, im sure.
It's simple: put $2500 in an interest bearing account. Run her up to 4000 RPMs and dump the clutch. Learn to modulate the throttle because at that level you will hit the rev limiter if you're not careful. After a few such launches she'll start to chatter. Then search e-bay for clutch pack. See, even aberrant behavior can be managed

Even with PSM off, I still get axle hop. The only times that I don't is when:
A) PSM is off and
B) the tires are allowed to slip (wet conditions).
PSM on in wet just simply bogs you down. My best launches have been when i'm not consciously trying to perform that "perfect" launch. typically, this involves one's desire to accelerate quickly from a standstill such as from a merge lane. My eyes are focused on oncoming cars while my feet are ready to do the launch. I've had great success in modulating the throttle and clutch slip this way but once again, it's not really a conscious effort... more like just getting the feel of it. hope that helps. but i am in agreement with the others that these cars aren't drag cars and shouldn't be treated that way.
