Flooded Tt!!!
Flooded Tt!!!
Gents,
Any members had experiences with flooded damaged P-cars. I want to buy a TT that was damaged by street flood. Car doesn't start. Car listed as "total loss" by flood damage.
Welcome any inputs, opinions, advises, recommendations. Thanks!!!

RUN far away from it.....FAST. Seriously...you know how much wiring is in a modern car...you know what flooding does to wire...the ONLY way you can guarantee a reliable car is to strip it down to the frame, and then replace all the wiring. This is near impossible and things like Litronics lights are wired through the frame at the factory. So your light system may never be right, or one day may go out and be near impossible to fix. Not to mention the engine management, electronics, etc....There is a reason they total flood cars. Unless you are building a race car they are worthless, and NO ONE will buy it from you once you dump the money into it...Its always worthless, no matter how much cash you put into fixing it.

First question, salt water or fresh water? In general the problems are potentially great and it's not worth the hassle to mess with. That said, if it was fresh water, you want to tackle a big project and can do a good bit of the work yourself it might be worth it- assuming they are giving it away.
True salt water is worse, but in a car like the TT, its near impossible to get it right. Plus you know how much these wiring harnesses cost from Porsche? Parts alone would cost him 20-30K in WIRING alone...not to mention replacing things that shorted out in the electrical system.

Well, the price they're asking is $29K. Fresh water damage. They might drop a couple thousands. It would be my personal project. Time is not important to me. I can do a little bit at a time.
I can almost state with 90% certainty that the DME under the driver's seat was damaged hence will not communicate with the ignition or key. I'd be willing to be that would be your problem....
In any case fresh water is better than salt... Salt water RUN RUN RUN.....
If I were you I'd offer "maybe" 25K, at the very most. . . .
