I use 15w-50 year around, both cars. It gets down to the 20's in the winter and 110 in the summer.

FWIW - I have had MANY, MANY RMS/ISS leaks using this weight. 4/2 in the Box and 2/0 in the C2. My turbo is stellar!

PS I still have those wheels if you are interested babe!

what do you mean by "4/2" and 2/0"? either way, i guess the heavier viscosity did not help you with regards to the seal. why do you run the heavier oil?

i may have to get a turbo just to avoid another RMS issue. let's see if I can sell the wife on that one

i'm shocked you still have those wheels. i would have guessed there are people throwing cash at you at stop lights to take those beauties off your hands. if you ever come up with the courage to part with them, you know who to call

by the way, what is going on with your avatar? your boyfriend needs to take you down to get a sandwich. everytime you post (which isn't often since you're a 6speed snob ) you get a new avatar and you're thinner and thinner. are you smoking crack again? just teasing. keep it up. you look great.

I'm sorry to confuse things, I was trying to be....er...nevermind.

It means...

Boxster S (2002) 4 RMS leaks and 2 Intermediate Shaft Seal leaks. (Four engine replacements...Porsche was amazingly easy and accommodating during all of it.)

C2 996 (2003) 2 RMS leaks. (One engine replacement)

I wasn't sure if you were making an attempt to correlate oil viscosity to leakage....but I wanted to throw my experience in there.

I use the heavier oil simply because I have done oil changes after a track day, in 110 degrees and what came out was "water". I made the decision myself to do it. No one, or any particular company swayed me either way. At one time 15w-50 used to be on the Porsche approved oil list. It isn't anymore. No one can really tell why they are on there or removed. So, I just do what I feel is best with what little knowledge I have accumulated over my lifetime.

Sell the wife man!! I have always said that if either of my Pcars had a *****...I wouldn't need a man in my life! j/k well, maybe not.

Trust me, I eat...just eat right and exercise my a$$ off. I am in no way thin...still got that booty thing going on hahaha. I am quickly approaching 40 (two years)...and I want to be healthy, happy and hot...okay, well happy and healthy anyway.

About that snob thing...hush your mouth! I am no such thing! I haven't posted much of anywhere....life is just busy, very busy...work, work, work! I think what got me posted this week is a level of concentration back on my car (I use the Turbo as my gym car...the yellow one the dust collector) again with it heading to CES for another year at the TRU Technology booth. I do miss you guys...well...some of you!

First of all I use 0-40 Mobil 1 here in Cincinnati which I find to be very good for our temperature range. I have considered 5-40W for my next oil change in the Spring but not sure as I have no issues in either of my 911's (at least to this point).

I find it interesting that on the list of approved oils there are NONE about 5- xx whatsoever!!

It's fine. Chicago winters aren't what they used to be and it doesn't get driven in the winter anyways.
