What oil weight are you running and where do you live?

Just trying to gather some info here.

What oil weight do you run and what are the temps like where you live?

I've been having an RMS issues with my car and I'm considering not using the 0W-40 anymore.

I'd like to see what some of you are running and if you've had any probs...

Also, I'm in FL with a median temp of about 75-80. Gets as hot as 100 and as cold as 40, although that does not happen often. Anyone have any recommendations for me? Like I said, I'm considering going to something a little heavier, but I don't want to do any damage.

Try doing a 0W-30. Up here in Lake Bluff (north of Chicago) we switch from Spring-Fall oil to Winter oil. We use 0W-30 Spring-Fall, and 0W-40 for Winter. This might be something you would like to try.

0W-50

It's what Champion put in the last time I had service.

15W50 Chicago. Never less than 5W50 but in Florida, I would never use anything less that 15W50.

Porsche does not recommend 0W40 just like they do not recommend a breakin period. I guess you also approve of only changing your oil every 15,000 miles?

I don't know where you are coming from. I do change my oil every 7500 miles even though Porsche says 15k

In my new crate motor I ran the break in oil Mobil 1, 0w30w that my dealer put in for 7500 miles, then changed to Mobil 1, 15w50w.
I did find that the thicker 15w50w might be a bit too thick, as when cold I get a little lifter noise for 2 minutes or so. Other than that my motor pegs the oil pressure gauge anytime now with the thicker oil above 2500 RPM.

so you're happy with the 15-50?

where do you live and what is "cold" there?

Im thinking of changing to 15w-50. I have 0w-40 with only 300 miles on it and its already dark brown in color. You think its still be gold in color. NJ recently driven only in fall @60 deg.

I live near San Jose California, so while right now, yes it is 40-60F, but spring will bring 70-80F, and of course summer we get into the 90's no problem.

I only have 200 miles since adding the 15w50w and when the engine is up to operating temperature she runs slightly higher oil pressure, so I would say I like it, just that first start up in the morning and hearing ANY lifter noise is weird, even though it only last for a minute or two.

You should hear NO lifter noise on startup using 15W50 short of your car sitting for a week or longer.

my car usually sits for at least a week at a time as it's not a daily driver. is that going to be a problem using the 15-50 for me?
