Help: Roll Bars on 996 Convertible
Help: Roll Bars on 996 Convertible
I am looking for your help,
How many of you have a 996 Convertible, also how many people on daily driving/track have had the roll over bars deploy on you for no really impact ?
Also does anyone have some pictures ?
Does the Roll bar break the glass in the hood ? or is it just in the hard top ?
Sorry for all the questions, i am doing some research on this at the moment.
Thanks
Paul

thanks for posting the picture of my car, after my "negative G" adventure last year.
BTW, putting the bars back down takes abut 2 minutes. Stick a rod down to hold the latch open, and push them back down till they latch in.
Thanks for your help so far, the main reason i am asking is that i work for Aston martin and we are using a system similar to the Porsche.
However, with all information i have found so far is that the roll bars do push up the perpex on the early cabriolets, and they smash the glass on the hard top when fitted.
I believe the glass is replaceable on the late 996 cabriolet ? is this correct ?
Also Orient Express, what conditions were you using the car for the rollover bars to activate ?
Thanks
Paul

Paul:
The glass on the 02 and later Cabs is pretty easy to replace. I have seen the procedure, and it is just popping out the gasket from a subframe.
When the bars popped in this picture, I was going over a rise in the road that caused the car to go a little airborne. When I was coming down, the bars popped.

I have seen the rollbars deployed on a 996 with the soft top up. No trauma to the fabric or plastic window.
