They are visible in mid day. They ( the blinking mod ) notify the driver in your rear 3/4 blind spot know you are intending to change lanes.

IMHO... Another postive side effect of this mod is that the sidemarkers flash when you set the alarm. So... no more having to walk to the front or back of the car to see if the alarm is setting.

Just wanted to verify, has anyone actually done the same mod on a 996 and not had any problems?

I just did this Mod and I found a better way to do it. My way you do not have to remove anything in the trunk. Just the two side trunk liners so you can remove the headlights. This mod takes about 15-20 minutes. I am uploading the pictures now and will post a link to them soon.

Itzkirb,

Couple of quick questions:

1. Does yours function the same way, with headlights off both lights blink simultaneously in tandem, with headlights on both blink opposite the other?

2. Why in your hack and in the previous hack on the first page of this thread do you run a wire out to the sidemarkers and splice there? Can't you access the brown ground wire on the other end where it comes into the trunk and cut and splice it there?

Thanks

1. Yes, works the same way.

2. I don't know? I guess you could do it that way. I just found it easier to get the the brown wire from the outside.

I also had a typo in the instructions...on the Passenger side it's the BLACK wire with GREEN Stripe not Green wire with black stripe. I've edited the instructions in the Photo Gallery.

I did this mod on the passenger side easily, but on the driver side, I cannot get the white plastic connector to slide out of it's bracket so I can strip the wire! It won't budge in any direction. Any advice here? Is there a secret tab I am missing?

Also, I notice the light is off and blinks on when the lights are off, but the light stays lit once the headlights are turned on! Any way around this? I'd like it to stay off all the time except when using the turn signals.....

What can you tell me about those great looking side markers, which appear to be LED? I'd love to install a set if I can find a source.
Thanks,
