Worth the upgrade: 01 to 02

Ok, this is an extention of my previous post. Right now im driving a 01 c2 cab w/ 75k miles on it. I think i can sell it for ~35k, I DEFINATLY dont want to leave the porsche family, but I considering upgrading to a mY02 or 03 for a few different reasons. First off my car as 75k miles althought i know it has quite a few more left, i want a car i can drive for the next 5-6 years AT A MINIMUM. The MY02's have a few added luxuries such as the 3.6L engine, glass rear window, face-lift liths, and possibly less RMS issues (mine is leaking).

I'd like some opinions from my brothers in speed . Is this worth pulling the trigger on and possibly running the risk?

What are the benefits/downfalls of jumping to the new model??

Thanks in advance...

Here is a link to one i'm eyeballing

I'm considering the same move from MY01 C4 cab to a MY02+ C4S, or TT. Since I've only owned mine for a year, bought at the top of the market, have under 20K on the clock and spent a ton on mods I can't justify the price hit just yet.
If you can get close to 35K for yours, I'd def make the move. The car your looking at seems like a great deal - !0K for 55K less miles, 20 more HP, glass rear window, updated body, all those options.......seems like a no brainer.

I agree. you cannot beat that deal for 10k more. I'd jump on it too if you want the c2.

I would rather have a TT but i NEED a convertable...its a summer car. You gotta have a convertable in the summer

I think you guys are both right. I should probably try to pull the trigger on this. Which brings me to my next problem of...do i try and sell my car before i buy the new one or do i own two porsches for a little while....hrrrmm...

More input would be greatly appreciated, especially if anyone has any opinion on the mechanical differences between the two model years???

I am in the other boat....keep what you know.....just because a car has less miles it does not mean its less problematic. I kept my 99 because it had a new engine put in under warranty...all other issues were dealt with under warranty, and I knew how I took care of the car. Alot of engine failures on ALL years happen between 40-80k miles.....so having a car under that mileage means to me you may be prone to failure.....for me the difference between 300 and 320 hp is no issue...My 99 goes fast enough....0-60 in 5 seconds and top speed of 177....why do I need to go faster than that really....Glass rear window...I actually prefer the plastic one...its bigger, and gives you more visibility...besides you said its a summer car...the top will be down....the frint...well I did the facelift, but that was only because I was hit...I needed a new fender and bumper, throw in another fender and some lights and I had the facelift....so it cost me like 1k for the facelift after the insuranec money....If that didnt happen I would have gotten a GT3 mk I bumper, GT3 mk I sideskirts and a TT rear bumper and had a very nice car....Its not gonna be 10k...you gotta bay tax and license on the new car....thats like 3k, so you are at about 13k difference....drive an 02 and see if its worth 13k for ya....its your money...but if it were me...I'd stick the 13k in a high yield account and use that when and if your motor goes....then you can drive the car for maybe 10 more years without issues.

Interesting thoughts...Just out of curiosity, how many miles are people putting on these things. mine has 75k now and i probably put on about 8-10k a year...LOTS of highway cruising. Are they really good for that many miles before you start to loose performance/mechanical reliability???

...damn....i thought i had my mind made up newport

Sorry man to throw this at you.....I like getting a great car and keeping it for a LONG time....I got 123k on mine....63k on a new engine.....NO issues....A magazine cracked an engine open to look at how one looked with 100k miles on it...They were shocked...it looked NEW....almost no wear on any of the internal parts...they said they thought a 996 engine is good for at least 200k miles.....

That 03 seems very low in price. It's below KBB for sure.

I def would get a PPI by a reputable person. Low mileage at a great price could make a great car or a lemon. 01 and 02 carreras arent really a huge leap forward, unless you go for a TT. 25 horses for ten grand isnt really that good of a deal. Its just a matter of time that the TT will get in a range where in the high 50's then we'd all be driving one.

This is where porsche wants to be, I cant see myself buying a new one and taking a 50-60 percent loss on these cars, I would rather have the other guy take that hit. They are great cars, though.

Newport makes a very convincing argument. I am switching sides. I say keep your car. I have a 99 and I love that thing.

Better the devil you know than the devil you don't.
Unless you seriously want to offload yours because of some hassle you just can't live with, then I'd say keep the thing.

I would say that if you plan on keeping the car then do the facelift... I was considering the same thing about a year ago and decided to do the facelift... my original plan was to also do the supercharger because in a perfect world a turbo cab would be what I want. Not being able to afford that I figured I'd just do the lift, get a supercharger, and buy rims.

Now, after talking with guys that have had the supercharger and other things, I have decided to not to do the supercharger. Bottom line is, I'll probably keep this car till it falls apart because I won't make the money back on it that was put in...

I figure this will always be my cab... and plan on getting something different in a few years that will be faster.

Cool996, my thinking exactly. Some day in the future (5 years or so) I plan on upgrading to a turbo cab tip 997. Hey you 997 TT guys, don't abuse your turbos. I might want it sometime.

Yes agreed....I will get something faster if I feel the need...but it will be a track car for me so it wont be new...maybe a early Boxster with a 3.4 or 3.6 or even a 3.8, small, light, fast, great handling....alot of fun on a track....or even a 944 turbo, done right....you can get reliably 450 hp and again its light, and handles well....I am pretty much done with this car, I'll keep it for YEARS...I am looking for my next project....a 1973 BMW 2002, hopefully a tii.....
